The Grand Stronghold of Bolg/The City of Trees
Sitting at the base of the Bolg Mountains, The Grand Stronghold of Bolg is the most important city for Orizon’s day to day life. A world on both sides of the ground integrates both hill and mountain dwarves whos vast empire is funded by supplying Orizon with necessary material resources.
Geography
The City of Trees is a surface civilization lies at the base of the Bolg Mountains, immediately west of the Orizon wetlands. There are a series of tunnels at the base of the mountains that lead to the undercity, the Stronghold of Bolg. Although the City of Trees is quite grand compared to many other surface settlements on Alterra, much of the city's wealth and nobility can be found in the undercity.
Ecosystem
The lush plains surrounding the city receive much of the water and soil nutrients from runoff of both the Bolg mountains and Orizon falls. This allows for the resource intensive flora in the city to thrive. Much of the city's architecture is comprised of the ferroak trees local to the region. These trees are famous for being extremely hardy as the bark on these trees are stronger than many metals. Many reisdences and businesses are carved directly into the trunks of these massive trees. The nutrient rich soil also benefits the regions floatwood orchards, a necessary material for the construction of skyships and many windskiffs as well as a main export of the region.
Natural Resources
The city of Bolg is very rich in natural resources, making it an excellent trading partner. The surface city is surrounded by lush farms and forests, supplying the city and Orizon with timber and food. The underground portion of the city is rich in mineral resources which are valued for the construction of tools, weapons, structures, and more. The presence of highly nutritous flora, fauna, and mineral resourses led to the large stature of Alterra's mountain dwarves.
History
The Stronghold of Bolg/City of Trees was officially founded in the early AB 200s after surviving colonies of montain dwarves in the region began to settle the surface following centuries of isolated rebuilding and inter-clan conflicts. With the help other other small nearby settlements, the resource rich land on the surface above Bolg was settled over the course of several decades in order to clear the area of dangerous monsters and volatile wild magic. The two settlements (SoB and CoT) were considered seperate regions up until around AB 1300 as the Stronghold of Bolg would only allow mountain dwarves to own land in the underground city wheras the City of Trees was home to many races, mainly humans, halflings, gnomes, and small shallows merfolk and wood elf populations. It is believed that the first settlers on Orizon were citizens of the City of Trees prior to the integration of non-dwarven races. Relations between the two cities were tense until integration was successful and rulers of both settlements decided their efforts were better spent collaborating and protecting each other from outside threats.
Following the Durgalian Stormcrawler attack in AB 1738, much of the City of Trees was left in ruin as they had never had to face such a magically advanced adversary prior to this incident. The Stronghold of Bolg was not as severly affected; however, much of both cities still needs to be rebuilt. After the attack, the civilization's rebuilding efforts is heavily reliant upon support from Orizon.
Tourism
Prior to the destruction of the Node in AB 1738, The Stronghold of Bolg was a popular pilgrimage site for moutain dwarves as every contemporary mountain dwarf clan can trace their roots back to the Bolg area. Currently, dwarves of status throughout nearby regions have taken to slower methods to assist in reconstruction efforts.
