The Dread King

The Dread King destroyed the old world to such an extent that not even it's old name is remembered.    As killed warrior and mage, the Dread King raised an army of undead and monsters and was near unbeatable.    Luckily, the true heroes heard the word 'near' and decided to take it as a challenge.    None are sure on the further history of the dread king, only that he ruled the nameless world for three years. Never revealed his face and went out of his way to destroy the gods and worship of them.

The Dread King's Reign

0 Lightfest to 1st Lightfest, year -3

The Dread King won and began to make changes. He killed every person he could find and wove a shroud of dunamancy and enchantment across the world. Making the members of this country forget it's old name and culture in one night. The world became dark and cloudy at all times, making food hard to come by and creatures of the night and darkness were freely able to walk the world once more.   Finally, using an artefact known as 'The God's Chest', the Dread King imprisoned almost all of the Gods and began to destroy their temples... hoping one day that everyone would forget the once divine masters of the world.

The people of the world... well... they forgot everything, the world they once lived in, their former queen.   Everything.   Most people succumbed to the Dread King and his generals. But some stood against him and formed groups dedicated to the destruction to the dread king.   Notable groups include:

    • The Fellblade faction- a group of former war-mongering hobgoblins who now set their sights on annihilating the dread king, especially after he destroyed the Grymhook clan.
    • The Bastion became an organised capital for those resisting the dread king and protecting the people of this new-world from him.
    • The Umbral Knights were a roving caravan of survivors, spies and warriors looking to undermine and take the fight to the dread king.
It is with these groups, specifically the Umbral Knights, that the Dread King would soon be undone.

The world of Alturis was founded by the survivors of the Bastion and, as the sun rose once again after 3 long years, the people of this new world came together and began to rebuild from remnants of their old homes and new shells of towns that once were.   There was hope and peace... but not all would emerged from this era without some degree of tragedy.   This era established the key cities in Alturis, specifically the Elected States and Freyfrost... though this was before the days of civil unrest and tension.

The Elected States and the Protection Act
    Diplomatic action

The people of Alturis finally found their homes and built their new city's and towns... with more joining the country of Alturis every day. At this point, Alturis established the 'Elected Crown' as a way to unite the main cities in Alturis and bring smaller towns under their umbrella of protection and resources.    This peace worked for a long time, that is, until the trials of the Mage-Slayer faction... this trial worked in the factions favour and they were renamed The Inquisitors and given a role within Alturis, trained and given resources to hunt illegal mages, named 'Aist Mages'.    Many cities and individuals didn't agree with this idea and, when the Protection Act was introduced that outlawed Aist Mages and gave Inquisitors a very high rank and influence across Alturis. This act fractured Alturis into elected states and 'Aist states' this civil war has been raging on for the last 15 years.
