Val Mortan is an adventurer, Arcanist, mageneer, writer, explorer and cartographer of Marbelliese origin, Ivultisian by adoption. Vastly considered to be the greatest explorer the world has ever known, his extensive writing has revealed much of what is currently known of the Cosmic Reality, notably The Chaos. Fearless adventurer, he has repeatedly crossed the borders between realities, visiting the Chaos a total of thirty-nine times, being invited in many Divine Domains, and even approaching the Outside. Favorite of both Miriennaa of Alpo and Ramatha, Herald of Chaos, he managed to avoid taking a side by being patronned instead by Mishreyn, Dragon of Chaos, one of the most powerful but least invested Demons.
Val was a brilliant student of the Global Academy of Sorcery, graduating top of his class before even reaching adulthood, and deciding to study at the Ivultisian School of Magical Engineering on top of that. Val invented the Sphericon, an incredibly powerful power source, with Madiil Cargadan, before embarking on his first adventure to the Chaos. He managed the great feat to see both The Breath of Chaos and Ramatha, Herald of Chaos herself on his first trip, and came back by jumping in an Arcanic Seepage and stabilizing it mid-air.
The records of his adventures are detailed in both his journals, a detailed account written as he went, and multiple more romanced books, in both cases considered too extravagant to be true by most historians. His stories of seducing Mishreyn into protecting him against the influence of both Divines and Demons are outrageous, and yet, the rumor isn't so far-fetched considering how many nobles of Amaanturis want his head for sleeping with their wives. Vastly known to be a womanizer, Val's heart is however dedicated to only one person, the love of his life, who passed away of an incurable, rare disease before the start of his adventures. He visited The Beyond to speak to her, and escaped the terrible wrath of Old Man Death, failing to rescue her from death, but never giving up the hope to bring her back and cure her disease.
