The One Flesh
Anacra is not alone in the cosmos. Other worlds hang in the Hungry Dark, inhabited by creatures and cultures unknown to the four kingdoms. Some contain desperate refugees or artisans of great beauty and wonder.
And some contain horrors.
When Uzhul drove his iron sword through the Earth's heart, Lifeblood spilled across Anacra. The Firmament shook and the smell of blood wafted out into the Hungry Dark. And far away from the Four Kingdoms, something stirred, vast and hungry.
Over the years it drifted through the void by its own volition, following the smell of lifeblood until it found a little world, sealed away and hidden from sight. The parasite, vast as a moon, alighted upon the shell and drove its proboscides and vast appendages into the cracks, prying it open. At last, it squeezed through, and slid into the Sky Kingdom . Suddenly affected by Anacra's gravity, it plummeted through the clouds. Its passage left a venomous putrescence, corrupting the clouds and tainting them with an oily ooze. This gave rise to the Morass.
The sovereigns shuddered as the One Flesh entered their world. They felt its passage. Vindur hurled bolts of thunder at it, but it did not slow. Sin poured out his fire to scourge it, but the shining carapace that protected the Flesh from the infinite void ignored him.
It was Li-Ban who stepped between the Wells of Blood and the hunger of the One Flesh. The Sovereign ripped a great piece of earth from the Mortal World, a continent-sized mass, and waited. As the abomination emerged from its shell, a great mass of hungry proboscides and eyeless, gasping, suckling mouths, the Sovereign smote it from the sky with the piece of earth. A horrific splattering sound echoed across the Four Kingdoms. Pieces of the abomination broke from its swollen body, scattering to the Mortal World below, seeding it with Aberrant life wherever they fell. And Li-Ban crushed the One Flesh beneath the earth, pressing it into the deepest depths of the sea and pinning it beneath the new land mass--the Torn Lands, Tamreon.
But the creature yet lived. Li-Ban descended into the roots of Tamreon to confront the abomination, and though it lashed out with mandibles and tentacles and draining mouths, the sovereign's fluid form flowed around each attack, strangling and tearing at it.
So they remain locked in combat to this very day. The children of the One Flesh, sheddings and clippings torn from its body, dwell in the deep places of the world, alien and anathema to mortal life. But the voice of the One Flesh echoes in all those born of flesh, urging them to unify with it, to help it seek the blood it so desperately craves, to grow so vast it devours the world.
