Althea Indil is a
Boshaari Rectifier and
Arkblazer Order Seeker. She is a humble, down-to-earth arcanist, adherent to the precepts of
New Fallanism, with a fondness for
ancient ruins and floral tapestries. In the 151st Cycle, she is the newly-commissioned Seeker-In-Command of the
AKV Duty of Dust.
Althea was born a pauper, deep within the maze-like slums of
New Eldelyn, on Aistanar. When she was twelve years old, her parents sent her to an institute/orphanage on the Frontier, run by a Rectifier cult. She spent six months there before escaping with a friend. Althea, a Fae-Touched Boshaari, managed to stabilize her friend and both decided to turn themselves in. Despite dreading her return to the orphanage where she would be admonished, her powers were noted and she was offered the right to take advanced classes. In doing so, she started the difficult journey to become a Rectifier. Life in the Orphanage was not always easy, but she did not let it defeat her. She was a very hard worker, for she knew that if she might not be the smartest, her work ethic was second to none. And she was right - after four years of training, she earned her place as one of a few initiates in New Eldelyn. By her late teens, she was becoming a fine Rectifier, and took on responsibilities in the day-to-day running the Orphanage. She eventually became a known healer on the frontier of Aistenar, where she spent much of her days wandering and healing the sick and needy.
Even though Althea had wanted to open a Hall of Convalescence, and took her duty in the Orphanage seriously, she still felt like she wanted more out of life. Wanderlust gnawed at her, and she started to research ancient
Ton'keena ruins. At 21 of age, she met a Boshaari pilot,
Amalien Liri. She convinced him to take her on his ship, the
Kyrona, and after tearful farewells, Althea left, promising riches to the Orphanage that had looked after her and taught her all she knew. The first year in space was tough for Althea. Though she was used to life with a crew, finding her situation similar to the Orphanage where everyone helps each other, she also found the life of a Boshaari rectifier-for-hire very different. Amalien was a
Courier interested in breaking speed records and participating in various races; Althea wanted to visit ruins and touch down upon new worlds. The two found life together difficult at first, but eventually made it work, becoming a strong team which soon enough caught the attention of the
Arkblazer Order. After a tight vote amongst the Seekers of the Order, Aistanar native
Matriarch Yulia invited Althea and Amalien to become Boshaari Arkblazers themselves.
Further training ensued, pushing Althea to the brink as she sought to perfect her arcane skills and become an effective Seeker at the same time. But the wanderlust, curiosity and ambition were there. Althea had much to prove to a world she rightfully might have been forgotten in, and still, she never forgot her origins. At age 24, much to her surprise, she was chosen as the Seeker-In-Command of the Arkblazer survey vessel
AKV Duty of Dust. The ship was unarmed, and really aimed at investigating strange gravitational anomalies discovered in the vicinity of Outpost X-5. Amalien joined her shortly as Venture-Seeker.
Althea was torn, for she was a Rectifier turned ship's Captain, and she did not fully understand the high praise and responsibilities enthrusted onto her by the Order. Deep down, Althea never hid feeling like an imposter; a Rectifier by training who would not heal people, a Captain by trade who never earned her command. But her mentor, Yulia, who invested so much energy in resplenishing the ranks of her moribund Order, believed she was the right person for the job.
In the 151st Cycle, the Duty of Dust was finally granted permission to enter orbit over
Outpost X-5 by the
Mewei Domain. It took several weeks to analyze the data from its sensors. With the help of a few crew members who had been trained as biologists, Althea made some interesting discoveries. One was that the gravity anomalies were actually large clouds of dust swirling around in an elliptical pattern. Another was how the dust's molecular structure was formed. But she knew that there was something else there, too - and that she had to find it.
