Thareus the Seer
Thareus is widely considered the wisest and most powerful wizard in the world.
Father, scholar, one-time adventurer and Vizier to the King of Baatherys, Thareus Carossa is first and foremost the most powerful wizard in the world. A legendary diviner, he looks like a human in his mid-sixties, but since no one but him knows his ancestry, it's hard to tell. As it is with anyone really.
Thareus is world famous and the subject of much popular art and music. A famous bardic epic called "Thareus and the Goblin Queen" tells the story of Thareus' travels in the Tarqan Plains and his seduction (either of or by) the goblin queen Panethra. No one ever played that song around his wife.
He is a three-time High Arcanist of the Royal Magocratic Society, was knighted by the Empress Jaida of the Second Alousian Empire, and holds a tenured faculty position at Johren University in the Midrianite capital of Cinri. He is the world's foremost expert on the Age of the Five Emperors, when dragon overlords ruled with the help of their elf, human, and orc slave armies.
Thareus is well known for living in a complex that takes up a crowded city block in the Baatherysian capital city of Tol Serica. Less well known - though still hardly a secret - is his small castle on the outskirts of the mining city of Szhar, deep in the mountains.
Thareus' Children
Thareus had five children with his late wife Maeren Brosza, a talented wizard in her own right. Some say Maeren was an enchanter, some say she dabbled in necromancy. Most say both. She died 16 years ago giving birth to the twins. Thareus' children always spend their youth as his apprentices. Currently only the two youngest (the twins Rhentryn and Rheana) are apprenticed to their father. Thareus and Maeren's children are: Taryn Carossa (31m) is an accomplished illusionist, folklorist, playwright, and storyteller. He writes and performs oratory and plays amplified and illustrated by illusions. He has performed in all the major cities on the continent and hopes to one day tour the undersea kingdoms. He is particularly famous in Tanatra, where he regularly collaborates with the legendary aasimar adventurer and bard Lady Esreithane. Sidrin Carossa (29m) is a conjurer on par with his older brother. He is based at the Royal College of Baatherys in the capital of Tol Serica. Sidrin is the youngest wizard ever made full professor when he was granted tenure at the age of 22. Now, seven years later, he leads a research team investigating the otherworldly rifts that periodically appear all over the world. He is also secretly an agent of the Kindred, feeding them the latest knowledge on other planes. Bhaina Carossa (23f) is even more powerful than her older brothers and an enchanter like her late mother. Bhaina is a part-time adventurer, part time mid-level diplomat, and full time spy for the Queen of Baatherys. Bhaina has an independent streak well reflected in her worship of Sinroa the Liberator. She also uses her wealth to support the charitable works of the Sinroan Temple. As a monarchist though, Bhaina is bothered by the new and growing support for democracy among the Sinroan clergy. Rhentryn Carossa (16m) Rhentryn is more interested in girls than in studying. He is arrogant and spoiled enough to think he doesn't need to study hard to be a great magician and thinks power and greatness are his birthright. Rhentryn has some hard life lessons ahead of him, several of them from his older brothers. Rheana Carossa (16f) Rheana is the opposite of her brother. While her position has instilled in her a quiet confidence that makes her seem older than she is, she doesn't have Rhentryn's arrogance or sense of entitlement. Of all Thareus' children, she is most like her father and hopes to one day be a seer like he is. In the meantime, she is focused and studious, trying to learn as much about magic as she can.Taryn Carossa, Thareus' oldest child and an accomplished illusionist in his own right. All five of Thareus' children serve as his apprentices.
Sidrin Carossa, Thareus' second child and a conjurer on par with his older brother. He is married to the heir of Esya
