Built from the ashes of the Old Empire after its destruction by demons, Alousia is an ancient country: rich, powerful, and complacent.

History

Alousia's history spans over five thousand years. It's capital of Amarsana was first founded sometime before the early kingdom of Alousia was founded in 4107 B.C. Caravans following the half-elf chieftain Alousa were the first ausrani to found a city. Amarsana, built on a lush river delta, would later become the capital of both the ancient Alousian Empire and the Second Alousian Empire.

Ancient Alousia

Twelve hundred years ago a massive invasion from a rift to the Nine Hells tore the Ancient Alousian Empire apart. While the Alousian armies (aided by the Godosseans , Tanatrans and Cernoan fey) ultimately destroyed the infernal forces and closed the rift, the empire never fully recovered. The Rape of Alousia resulted in thousands of tieflings. Eventually, the Alousians rebuilt.

Second Empire

Today, Alousia still calls itself an empire, though it is now a fraction of its former size and power. This Second Alousian Empire is ruled by the Nineteenth Dynasty, counting from the founding of the first empire by Indra five thousand years earlier.
Several kingdoms seceded from the old Empire in the centuries after Alousia’s destruction. The present day Alousian Empire controls the historic heartland in the northern delta and the oldest cities. Shan arose around the great southern delta, and the small kingdom of Baatherys was founded in the eastern mountain valleys by noble Alousian refugees. The now legendary bardic Daoshana of Midrian declared its independence nearly as soon as Alousia fell.

Government

The Empire is divided into six ványas or 'duchies' which are sudivided into 3-6 'baronies' or saënas. Each saëna is ruled by a hereditary Saën. The Saëns of each ványa elect a Váyanar who serves for life.
The Emperor or Empress is a hereditary title inherited by the eldest child of the reigning monarch. They directly control only the royal city of Amarsana, but govern the Empire with the advice of the Váyanar. The Emperors of Alousia also lay claim to the thrones of Baatherys, Midrian and Shan as those nations were once part of the Ancient Alousian Empire.

Because of the Rape of Alousia a thousand years ago, many modern Alousians have some degree of fiendish blood. There are many tieflings, as well as sorcerous families with fiendish bloodlines
