Basic Information

Anatomy

Giants are immense, muscular Kinfolk that possess great strength. Females stand slightly shorter than males.

Biological Traits

A Giant's large size helps them survive freezing storms that could quickly kill a human, in addition to making them very physically powerful. They tend to be long lived. There is some debate on whether or not Giants have the ability to use magic.

Genetics and Reproduction

There have been some reports on inbreeding among certain Giant populations.

Ecology and Habitats

Giants are mainly found in the cold forests of northern Tamerea. In recent centuries however, they have begun to be sighted further and further south.

Dietary Needs and Habits

The majority of a Giant's diet is obtained from hunting or gathering. As a result they tend to be constantly on the move, following prey herds and traveling to patches of ripe forage. A few families have learned how tend to herds of Mammoth for milk, hide, meat, and bones.

Additional Information

Giants typically live in extended families with the occasional unrelated individual. Young adults typically stay with their families, but occasionally they will set out to form their own family unit. When these lone adults come across one another they often join up and form hormonal trouble making gangs.

Facial characteristics

Giants have a very human-like face, including round ears.

Geographic Origin and Distribution

Giants are mainly found in the far north of Tamerea. They have also been found on many of the northern islands.

Symbiotic and Parasitic organisms

While not universal, Giant families have tamed several creatures, including mammoths, and Dire Wolves.

Civilization and Culture

Major Language Groups and Dialects

Giants speak their own language. There have been attempts to teach them Merchant's Tongue and learn their language with some success.

Common Dress Code

Despite living in the colder regions, Giants tend to wear relatively few clothes.

Culture and Cultural Heritage

While there is still much to learn of their culture, it is obvious that Giants are a deeply spiritual people based on their art, rituals, etc.   A common game for Giants to play is throwing contests. Usually played with stones the goal is to throw the chosen items as far as possible.

History

The origins of giants is debated among scholarly circles. One popular theory suggests that an early group of humans traveled north and got stranded on an island. As generations passed they got bigger and managed to reach other islands, before reaching Tamerea.

Interspecies Relations and Assumptions

Giants have a stained and mixed relationships with other folk, especially humans. In the eyes of many Giants have a reputation of crudeness and stupidity. Their hunter gather lifestyle often results in them hunting human livestock and damaging crop fields. Individuals respond to the smaller folk differently, some have 'adopted' smaller villages, protecting them from dangers and trading with them. Others see the smaller races as sources of food, and raid their communities for hard to obtain foods such as meats, honey, and sweets. A few individuals, particularly younger Giants, have been known to mistake a human as a very young giant upon meeting a human for the first time. As a result they end up kidnapping said human and trying to raise them, believing them to be orphaned.
