Hafr
Hafr started as a small mining operation a few hundred years after the Sundering, where people came far and wide for a chance to strike precious ores. But over time, the mining operation grew and prospered and eventually three companies grew to power and what are now known as the Netherworks Clan. As the Netherworks expanded, people from all over the continent began to make the trek to Hafr in search of a better life and better opportunities.
The streets are filled with muddied cobblestone and lined with snow-covered homes. Along the skyline are smokestacks belching out black clouds that hang low over the cobbled streets. The sound of wagons rumbling down the street adds to the cacophony of the sounds of the city. Though, the one redeeming factor of the constant noise and chaos is one of the major exports of Hafr, that being sweet apples. Every night you can find a warm apple cider to fill your heart.
Demographics
73% humans, 12% dwarves, 15% other races.
Government
The city is headed by Pimzric Bronzeheart. His family has strong ties to the Netherworks Clan, leading some to mutter of favoritism, though they have no power to challenge him. Pimzric Bronzeheart enjoys his position, often making public shows of his power by holding small celebrations and contests in his honor. Those he did not favor before taking office are rumored to have disappeared or been driven into poverty.
Defences
A respectable number of Peacekeepers protect Hafr, occasionally bolstering their defenses with hired mercenaries. The Netherworks also employ the use of mercenaries to protect their mineral assets.
Crime
Crime in Hafr usually involves petty thefts of cargo and burglaries rather than any major conflicts. There is a guard presence in Hafr, and the citizens are expected to follow the laws, and those that do have nothing to fear from the Peacekeepers, who take care of policing matters. Law in Hafr is extremely punitive, and those that breach the complex list of laws can expect hard labor, incarceration, or sometimes public execution. The Peacekeepers have their pockets padded by the Netherworks Clan to pay special mind to their wares. The Cabal has agents in Hafr, but the settlement is too busy to become an effective center of criminal activity.Industry & Trade
A strong industry around metals and mining makes most basic supplies and some rarer goods available.
Guilds and Factions
Industrial families are heavily invested in the city and its business. Temples to Bruzoul, are easy to find.
Geography
As the town rests along the base of the Smithsboro Peaks, the people who live here have to be creative in order to make ends meet. The city is enclosed by a large stone wall, and the only way in or out is through the two gates. The architecture suggests a sense of history and tradition that goes back to the town's founding. The ironworks and stonemasonry of the builings suggest a strong industrial heritage that is still evident today.
