Canidaes

Canidaes are a race inhabiting the country of Canidae within the region of Mammalia. With a diverse array of subtypes ranging from disciplined Dogs to savage Wolves, the Canidae race encompasses a wide spectrum of behaviors, dispositions, and societal structures.

Physical Characteristics

Canidae individuals typically stand between 5 to 7 feet tall at adulthood, with variations in size among different subtypes. Wolf, Dog, and Hyena Canidae tend to be larger than their Coyote and Fox counterparts. They possess canine features such as fur-covered bodies, sharp teeth, and pointed ears.

Cultural Diversity

The Canidae race exhibits a wide range of cultural norms and societal structures, shaped by the unique characteristics and behaviors of each subtype. Disciplined Dog Canidae often inhabit large cities, known for their friendly dispositions and adherence to societal rules and hierarchies. In contrast, savage Wolf Canidae are feared and respected for their ferocity and strength, existing within tightly knit packs governed by strict hierarchies.

Alignment Tendencies

Canidae societies are predominantly Lawful, characterized by strong hierarchies and innate respect for authority figures. However, there are notable exceptions among Coyotes and Hyenas, who tend to lean towards chaotic alignments. These individuals often challenge societal norms and hierarchies, embracing a more unpredictable and individualistic approach to life within Canidae society.

Interactions with Other Races

The Canidae race engages in diplomatic relations and interactions with other races within the region of Mammalia, leveraging their unique talents and societal structures to navigate political alliances and trade agreements. Despite differences in behavior and disposition among subtypes, Canidae are respected for their strength, intelligence, and unwavering loyalty to their kin.

Canidae

The members of the Canidae race run the spectrum from disciplined Dog Canidae who mostly live in large cities and are known for their friendly dispositions, to the more savage Wolf canidae that are as feared as they are respected. Due to the strong hierarchies of their societies and innate respect for their superiors, Canidae are almost always Lawful, with the notable exception of Coyotes and Hyenas who are almost exclusively chaotic. Canidae stand 5 to 7 feet tall at adulthood. Wolf, Dog and Hyena Canidae are generally larger than their Coyote and Fox cousins.

Coyote

Coyote canidae are somewhat nomadic and tend to live in small wandering groups. Most Coyote canidae side with the Wolf canidae in matters concerning Canidae politics but remain opportunistic in their ideals. They have a tendency toward Chaotic alignments and stereotypically are assumed to do most things "just to see what will happen" as opposed to for any specific motive. This results in most other species being reluctant to trust a Coyote on principle, but their innate cunning still enables them to find a way to come out on top in most situations.

They are natural followers, and will be devoutly loyal to an authority figure that has earned their respect.

Fox

Fox Canidae are enigmatic and aloof. They are stereotyped as being untrustworthy by other races, but this is not necessarily fairly earned. More accurately, Fox Canidae are highly intelligent and have strong social intuition, meaning they can be master manipulators when it benefits them.

Hyena

Hyena Canidae are perhaps the most unpredictable of their race, and are typically Chaotic in contrast to their Lawful cousins. Hyenas live in matriarchal groups and are ferociously loyal to those they consider part of their 'pack'. They are wary of outsiders and don't trust easily. They have a reputation for enjoying causing chaos and mischief, and are generally stereotyped as troublemakers. This is most a fair stereotype, as pranking others, not always innocently either, is a core part of their culture.

Wolf

Wolf Canidae are the natural leaders of the Canidae groups. The strongest and largest of the Canidae, they stand at ~7 feet tall and generally have nimble but muscular builds. They respect a strict hierarchy and will immediately outcast anyone who violates the chain of command. They have a natural proficiency at anything athletic, survival, or leadership related. They have strong family and pack (community) bonds, and are immensely loyal to their companions. Wolf Canidae are stereotyped to have quick tempers and aggressive tendencies, but this is not always true as plenty of Wolf Canidae have proven themselves effective leaders, requiring immense self-control.

Pack Tactics

The Wolf has advantage on an Attack roll against a creature if at least one of the Wolf's allies is within 5 ft. of the creature and the ally isn't Incapacitated.

Frightful Howl

As a bonus action, once per short rest, a Wolf Canidae can emit a howl in a 60-foot-radius spread. Enemy or neutral creatures in this radius must make a successful WIS save (DC 15) or become frightened. While frightened by this trait, a creature must take the Dash action and move away from you by the safest available route on each of its turns, unless there is nowhere to move. If the creature ends its turn in a location where it doesn’t have line of sight to you, the creature can make a Wisdom saving throw. On a successful save, the affect ends for that creature. Success indicates that the target is immune to Frightful Howl for until the next day.
