Zandre
The Rama Family
The Rama family is known for their numerous health clinics and hospitals throughout Cognance and the nearby surrounding areas. The Rama family almost a century ago was known for their charitable help of those less fortunate by giving medicine and healing to those that could not afford treatment. The family was able to do this as they were gifted enough to have a number of magic users that could channel those abilities for healing and curing others. As their reputation grew and new clinics began being built, they started to get the attention of the nobility of Cognance at the time. The Ramas started to become exclusive physicians for noble families and lost touch with their roots of helping those that could not help themselves, as the pay from the nobles for their services was too good to not accept. The family started staffing their clinics with people of similar abilities of healing and those that were knowledgeable of medicine to create treatments that were cheaper to buy than buying the services of a magical healer, and the family itself kept to only tending to the nobility. Zandre’s grandparents (Verin & Margarite) were leaders of the family at the time when the Ramas had been given the social recognition of being nobility for their great services that they have provided and continue to provide for the city of Congnance. Zandre’s parents (mother Marie & father Hannequin) were now the leaders of the Rama family when Zandre is born, third son of the family. Zandre’s parents were hoping to have a daughter for their third child, but when they had another son, they gave him their daughter’s name that they hoped to have. As he grew older his family began to realize that he had been touched by a powerful being as he started to show signs of that as an Aasimar. Any scar or wound he got when playing with others would have a slight glow to them in the dark. Regardless of that fact, all three of their sons, Zandre, Eddie, & Markus, where well-loved and taken care of. They were given the best education, cloths, foods, and were overall being spoiled by their parent’s riches.Zandre’s Story:
Zandre grew tired of the forced noble life: the constant reading, studying, high expectations, and pretending he was someone he was not. He also started to realize that whatever powerful being made him who he was, was not one of a divine nature. Zandre was always quick to anger, which would lead to violence, outbursts, and having no remorse for his actions after. Zandre, every night by himself, would plead for help to change who he was and what he was becoming. That is when a being of actual divine nature answered his call. Zandre, no longer wanting any part of the noble life after his divine intervention, told his parents that he will no longer assist in the family business. In doing so the family informed him that he would not be allowed access to their ways of living until he changed his mind again. With being cut off to his family’s wealth, Zandre set off to be his own made man. That first step was going to the Cognance army. There, he was given a place to sleep, eat, and be paid. Once the army learned of Zandre’s abilities, they made full use of him. Tasking Zandre, and other with similar abilities (cleric, paladin, wizard), in becoming a small elite task force used for spying, scouting, battlefield healing, and increasing the abilities of others though magical means. On what would be Zandre’s last mission with the army, their group was tasked with being assassins of high ranking officers and saboteurs against the armies of Penance. After leaning the full scope of their task, Zandre and their squad leader Tano (paladin) went AWOL, fleeing to Sigil, and daring to never return to Cognance for fear of what punishments would be brought down upon them for deserting and for the information that they had gathered during their time serving in the elite group. In Sigil, Tano and Zandre started a black market smuggling and freelance mercenary group, calling themselves the Hellfire Legion. Anytime their group started to get heat they would move their operations to the next city, and repeat when needed. The Legion was present on The Day of Long Shadows in Crucible. Their most ambitious smuggling heist was ruined when the giants attacked. Among the chaos Tano and Zandre decided to bail from the city. While fleeing, a giant with a mammoth-sized axe went to attack Tano while he was unaware. Zandre interjected himself between the two to save Tano, in the process the axe came down on Zandre’s shield, cutting though the shield and his arm. With no time to think Zandre grabbed Tano and teleported the two of them out the giant’s sight. After that night, the Hellfire Legion was all but massacred in the attack, forcing Tano and Zandre to start over in rebuilding the Legion. Zandre, pleading once again to both powerful beings that have given him strength, good and evil, to find a way to restore his arm, so he may fight again when needed or called upon. Again, his warlock patron answered him first, tasking him with what he has been running from since leaving the city of Congnance: to spend a month tending to the wounded and sick after the violent attack from the giants. Zandre complied, healing and assisting the injured and sick. As his gift from his patron, he now processes a faintly glowing arm that he could summon when needed that would replace the one he lost in the attack.A Tale of Two Celestials
In time, the Hellfire Legion would slowly rebuild with the aid of a woman called Jack, who Zandre would eventually formed a romantic relationship with. Zandre and the Hellfire Legion's exploits would eventually lead them back to Sigil, having been given leave to operate within the city by the King himself, so long as they aided him in a delicate matter. During this time, Zandre traveled with an adventuring group also commissioned by the king. During their travels, Zandre would finally shed some light on who and what these two beings that held so much influence on his life really were. The darker entity was revealed to be none other than Cataclysm himself; the connection having been made shortly before his birth by the Harbinger of The Heralds of Aevilok, who had portended the imminent demise of the current Orator of the Triumvirate Church and saw that Zandre would be the next reincarnation. This was achieved by bestowing a curse upon Zandre's pregnant mother and then offering a "cure" for the affliction. Clearly then, the other, divine patron was none other than the Triumvirate itself: Sigil, Cognance, and Penance. Indeed, Zandre was born as the reincarnation of Eero Hengellen: the Orator. The Harbinger's meddling concealed this from the Church, however. This resulted in the Throne of Arbitration remaining empty for over thirty years and allowing the pretender Enzo Hablador of Penance to sow discord across the land. Zandre's divine nature was finally revealed when he alone could open the doors to Hengellen's Oracle; marking him as the God's chosen speaker. There was a snag, however. The Orioles of the Church could sense the dark influence Cataclysm had on Zandre, and thus could not in good conscience allow him to ascend the throne. Instead, they offered him their full support in cleansing his spirit of this vile connection. Once this was done, he could take his rightful place as Orator. Naturally, none of this has sat particularly well with Zandre, who would like nothing more than to carve out a simple life for himself and his Legion. For much of his life, he continued to work with the Legion and tolerated the Church as he searched for answers of his own. As fortune would have it, The White Tower Alliance and their struggles against both Cataclysm and the remnants of the Heralds of Aevilok turned up some critical information that finally allowed Zandre to rid himself of Cataclysm's dark influence. With that well and truly sorted, Zandre was officially inducted as Orator of the Triumvirate Church, much to his chagrin. Zandre begrudgingly accepted his role, but never cut ties with his Hellfire Legion. His influence on both organizations rippled throughout the ages. As of 1590, the Hellfire Legion is still a prominent mercenary force in Requiem. Less glamorously, the Triumvirate Church went through something of a schism, with Fundamentalists strongly opposing him and Progressives following his "new" doctrines.
