Session 9: Svaar'Nultek Report

General Summary

Reunion with Goruk and Warby's Change

After the battle with the living runes, we were relieved to reunite with Goruk. He quickly set to work repairing Warby's severely damaged blade. However, during the process, something strange happened—an entity seems to have taken up residence within the blade and subsequently within Warby's mind. Its intentions remain unclear, though it appears friendly enough, communicating solely with Warby. Curiously, Warby has developed a sudden craving for bones, which is unsettling for all of us.

Investigating the Tower

Before venturing into the Overpit, we decided to thoroughly investigate the tower at its edge. Inside, we discovered murals depicting the heroic actions of the Dawnbreakers from 1300 years ago. These murals were breathtaking and filled us with a sense of reverence. We also found old tomes and odes dedicated to Vaeloria, alongside an ancient prototype schematic for a Lightning Skiff—a fascinating find.   Our most significant discovery was an altar containing two rituals dedicated to Elysia. One ritual had the power to fully resurrect the dead, while the other was the binding ritual we had previously found, meant to bind Svaar'Nultek. Deciding to rest for the night, we camped in the tower observatory, preparing ourselves for the descent into the Overpit at dawn.

Entering the Overpit

Using the Phantom Key, we removed the magical barrier shielding the Overpit and descended into its depths. The descent was facilitated by a gravitational anomaly that slowed our fall, allowing us to reach the bottom safely. We found ourselves in a cave system, which we navigated until we emerged into a vast, open cavern deep beneath the surface. The cavern resembled a forest glade but with a dark taint, and the fog was thick, obscuring our vision.

Meeting Svaar'Nultek

As we pressed further inside, Svaar'Nultek revealed himself, rising from the earth like a pile of leaves taking on draconic form. Contrary to our assumptions, he was not a green dragon but a forest dragon. Despite his intimidating presence, he was not immediately hostile, though wary of us.   He revealed that he had been absorbing the dark energy pouring out of "the rift," a location at the heart of the Shattered Vale. This energy had been continuously flowing, and Svaar'Nultek had been absorbing it for 1300 years. However, over time, he lost the ability to differentiate between light and dark energies, leading him to unintentionally absorb the life force of nearby villages, including Tinnervale. Svaar'Nultek expressed regret and offered a solution: if he could taste a pure, good soul, he would regain his ability to distinguish between energies.

The Ritual and Combat

Only Sunny fit the criteria of a pure soul, but sacrificing him was not an option we could accept. Instead, Goruk began the ritual to cut off the energy flow into Svaar'Nultek. As the ritual commenced, mutual combat ensued. We braced ourselves for the battle, knowing that defeating Svaar'Nultek was the only way to save the surrounding lands even if it meant disabling the tenuous balance of energy within Valestria.
