Cascaven
"That's right; Arcane Crystals. There's so much of the stuff growing here, it's even attached itself to some of the local wildlife. The turtles don't seem to mind."Cascaven is a rural town with a primarily Gnomish population, situated on the northeastern side of the Opthis mountain cluster in Oreion. Initially small and relatively isolated, Cascaven was well known in Oreion as a sheep-farming town and chiefly exported wool to be used in the manufacture of The Veiled Hand's military uniforms. Eventually, sought after alchemical ingredients in the surrounding cascades were found by the local populace, as well as an abundance of Arcane Crystals and other valuable minerals in the caverns beneath the town. As such, the town began to grow in size due to its various commercial successes, with the Inquisitorum in Victorum and House Darkcorht purchasing the vast majority of the town's harvested arcane crystal supply. Evenutally, several of the major houses of Oreion commissioned the gnomes of Cascaven to design war machines for them, though in some cases the town lacked the manpower to meet demand. With the outbreak of the Oreion Civil War, Cascaven did their best to declare neutrality, being situated far from any major House capital and being very close to the divide between North and South Oreion. While they have managed to avoid the greater chaos of the war, their stance has done significant damage to the town's economy and ability to harvest new material. The most notable strucutre in Cascaven is the famous First Draft, an incredibly popular tavern known for its massive selection of original, quality beverages. The town also has access to many caverns and tunnels from which several of the town's beautiful cascades fall, though several of these have been sealed off due to their proximity to Arkos' Underdark.
