In 1007 3A, the insane Lightsworn Janus succeded in his plan to become Lightbringer, an avatar of the Light Numina. With his newfound power, Janus invaded the realm of Serenia, and was able to gain physical access to the Arcane Weave itself. Using his connection to the primordial energies of the Weave, Janus latched onto the Weave in a manner akin to a parasite. Infecting the Weave with poison born from his hatred for mortal kind, any individual who had a strong connection to the weave began to cough up black ichor and slowly perish. If Janus had remained attached to the Weave for a longer period of time, it is theorized that millions of people across Arkos would have perished, magically gifted or otherwise. Fortunately, Janus was stopped and destroyed by The Sanctioned, and the group managed to repair the damage done to the Weave. However, some of Janus' infection lingered in the weave for a time after his death, specifically corrupting the use of healing magics for a short time. Some individuals who were exposed to a large quantity of healing magic after Janus' death experienced an acute madness, adopting speech patterns similar to Janus' own. Janus' attachment to the Weave and its subsequent effects have come to be known as the Lightplague.
