The Conclave
"There is something that deeply unsettles me about the Alphacians, particularly their leadership. Something at the heart of the empire...a hunger that cannot be satisfied, a desire that goes unfulfilled. They say that history is written by the victors. But what if, in the case of the Cataclysm, there were no victors?" - An excerpt from the writings of Corina Vezara, First Reader of the Phoenix Academy
Due to recent findings and first hand accounts that came to light after the events of The Kindling, many scholars and historians of the First Age that agree upon the existence of The Alphacians also agree on a ruling governing body of the world-spanning empire, known as the Conclave.
Proposed to be a ruling council elected by the majority of Alphacian society, The Conclave was a twelve-member council that served as the ruling body of the Empire throughout much of its history. If the First Age ruins littered around Western Arkos are to be believed, then the Conclave had a tremendous responsibility of overseeing various aspects of a global empire, and perhaps one that even stretched to the stars above. Each member of the Conclave controlled one of the twelve Spheres of Influence within the Empire, making the Conclave the most powerful individuals in the Empire, both physically and governmentally. Seats on the Council were presumebly hotly contested among the Alphacians, with the tenures of some Councilors lasting only months while others lasted decades and even centuries, and every single individual within the entire Empire ultimately answered to one member of the Conclave through the hierarchy of power bases. The meeting place of the Conclave is theorized to be the fabled city of Centralis, but there are many who deny the existence of the city itself.
While much information is still unknown or at the very least unshared of the Alphacian empire, many have theorized what these twelve spheres of influence may have been. Proposed spheres include:
- Ancient Knowledge
- Arcana
- Architecture
- Biotic Science
- Diplomacy & Expansion
- Law & Justice
- Military Defense
- Military Offense
