Yonder

"Make no mistake mortal; we would have happily lived our lives in the Beyond, ignorant of each other's existence. But then came the elder ones; like a poisoned blade slashing deep into clean flesh, they acted as a source of terrible disorder in the our pristine, geometrical world. So now, with our ship, we came here. And here we remain." -High Regent Octavia     Much like the sinister Illithid and intelligent Aboleth, the race known as the Yonder hail from the uncharted realm beyond the Cosmic Sea known as The Beyond. Resembling a shifting liquid form comprised in a humanoid shape, sealed inside an environmental protection suit, the Yonder appeared in the Cosmic Sea during the First Age, traveling aboard a massive ark that they called The Crucible.   Suffering from the machinations of the Illithids and Aboleths that the Ancients fought against, the Yonder were forced to leave the Beyond and travel to the known realms, seeking refuge for those of them that remained. To the few mortals they presumably interacted with, the Yonder were benign, albeit somewhat ignorant and possessing a certain flavorful chaos about them. While some Yonder still wander the surface of Arkos after the The Cataclysm, many have confined themselves to the safety of the Crucible, though voyages to the mortal and other realms are frequently required in order to gather resources and make repairs. Many Yonder must make at least one of these 'supply runs', which the Yonder have made an important aspect of their modern culture. They refer to it as a Pilgrimage.   While many Yonder believe that they are beings created by the Creator along with all the other life in The Cosmic Sea (as they do possess Anima, they believe that upon death they rejoin something they refer to as 'The Great Flow'. To those that have talked to Yonder throughout history, the Great Flow sounds like a planet in liquid form, and according to Yonder it is where they are born from and where their soul returns when they die. That was the case, at least, before their great exodus from The Beyond due to the abberation threat. Rather than having parents, when a Yonder is born from the Great Flow, a mentor adopts them and acts as a parental figure, though how much love and affection they show to their charge is entirely up to them. Before the exodus, if a Yonder felt its lifetime had reached a conclusion, it would travel back to the Great Flow and merge with it once more. Some have stated this process as sounding similar to the now lost reincarnation cycle of the Prometh, though without the emergence of new life. According to most Yonder, the loss of these practices of birth and death are among the most tragic for their kind.   According to accounts, one of the most distinguishing feature of the Yonder are their weak immune systems, compounded by centuries of living in their ark the Crucible. As a result, all Yonder by necessity always wear a highly sophisticated enviro-suit, to protect them from disease or infection if they are injured. Their suits can be compartmentalized in the event of a tear or similar breach to prevent the spread of contaminants. While a Yonder's liquid yet intelligent form can sometimes be seen beneath their suit, there are no surviving depictions of any Yonder without their defining suit form.
