The Beuw Lake
The southern great lake in Ardarock, the Beuw Lake is one of four great lakes in the world of Armeylose. It is the smallest of the great lakes and gets its water from rivers that stream from both the ice melt of The Luin Range and the underwater springs of Xerkots range. The mix of hot and cold water flowing into the lake from opposite sides creates violent currents. The currents make certain parts of the lake incredibly dangerous for small boats to pass threw and the lake is known for taking people miles of course if the get caught in a current. These currents also provide skilled sailors the ability so glide threw the waters when they are able to read the currents. This lake unlike The Brunedoore Sea, it's greatest depths are known, with the lake at its deepest being just under a mile deep. The lake itself has been fished by the hill and Blue Dwarves since the start of the second age. The Dwarves primarily they hunt the large lake sturgeon that live in the Beuw Lake. These sturgeon live in three of the great lakes, only The Brunedoore Sea does not have lake sturgeon as it is too deep. The Beuw Lake however is known for having the largest lake sturgeon ever caught in Armeylose, the largest ever being twenty six feet and over six thousand pounds. The Dwarves of The Beuw Area have hunted these sturgeon the same was since the early second age. The Dwarves use boats that can fit around twenty people on it including a single fish. At the front or rear of the boat is a large crossbow powered harpoon, that is aimed and shot into one of these sturgeon. The sturgeon then swims and drags the boat threw the lake until it succumbs to the harpoon bolt. The Dwarves then pull the great fish onto their boat and return home. It is dwarven tradition that they only take sturgeon from the lake that are over twelve feet long. This is too ensure the fish are given many breeding years before they are killed, this practice has ensured sturgeon be in the lake for over three thousand years. Recently in the past fifty years two large boats from a new human fishing company named the FLBC have been drawing a large line net between the two boats. They sweep the lake with this net catching thousands of fish including sturgeon. This fishing company's new hunting practices have begun to change the number of fish in the Buew Lake drastically. In just the past fifty years the sturgeon have become rarer and small the largest only getting to around seventeen feet long. While this has provided great profit for the new human fishing company it has begun to destroy the way of life for the Dwarves of the lake. This has created a conflict within the fishing district of BeuwTown that has grown violent. The Beuw Council is currently split on the matter evenly, they cannot decide whether or not to ban the new fishing practice.
The waters of war
When the second age started after the world was reformed during the second creation. The lands of Ardarock were separated into six major kingdoms. These kingdoms were ruled by either Elves, Giants, or Dragons when they were first created. The Giants kingdoms were IronCrane first ruled by King Torban and The Beuw Area first ruled by the Storm King Beuw. The Elf Kingdoms were Pyeruille and Paytiore, ruled by the Fleygleam and Melberry families respectively. Then there was the Dragon Kingdoms. One ruled by the silver dragon Brunedoore and spanned across the mountains forest and great lake named after her. The other ruled by the red dragon Xerkot, who's volcanic mountain range sits in the center of Ardarock. It was the war between Xerkot and the Giant kingdoms that is said to have caused The Eternal Slumber. This war was taught over control of the Beuw lake, which when the Storm King Beuw first saw the lake named it after himself and made law that; all good folk may use the lake as long as they do not exceeding harm to it. The dragon Xerkot believed the lake was apart of his Kingdom and named it Kezmoore. Xerkot sent Raiders after any who went on the lake and war quickly began. This war was not only with The Beuw Area but also the Kingdom of IronCrane who frequently used the lake. The war for the Beuw lake lasted almost a thousand years, this was until Xerkots wars with the Giants was thought to be lost on the red dragons side. Then the dragon and his rider took to the skies and began burning the land, the dragon Xerkot had burned all of the Luin meadow. While his rider Direoclies caused lightning and acid to rain on the buildings of IronCrane. During this attack The Eternal Slumber began and the Giants and dragons both fell too a deep coma. This slumber took Xerkot while he was mid flight and is told to have fallen to his death while he flew back to his range. Some say he died in the lake he waged a war over, others say he died in his mountain range impaled by rocks as he crashed. Others will tell you Orcs they have killed still serve Xerkot, caring for his sleeping body as the Dwarves care for the Giants. No matter the case after Xerkot fell the Beuw Lake was no longer contested.
The Merfolk of the Lake
Somewhere in the lake there is a kingdom of merfolk who are rarely seen, but are known to be hostile when they are. Often creating whirlpools that that capsize boats then the merfolk drag and drown the sailors. Since the two large boats owned by the FLBC or Fishing Line Brothers Company have been fishing in the Beuw Lake they have captured nine merfolk in their nets in fifty years and killed all of them auctioning of their bodies to the highest bidder. Those nine merfolk have only been bought by three people: Nordolf the Potion Maker, Velgrin, King Frayns Head Advisor, and a former professor of Luin University Osloclies. Some of the fisherfolk of the Beuw Area are very displeased with the sale of these merfolk and believe the sale of the merfolks brings the wraith on the sailors and swear the merfolks attacks have increased in the last fifty years.
