Drow

Drow, also known as Dark Elves, are a species of elf created not by divine will, but by evolution. According to historical scrolls from the Great Library of Aglaia, Drow descend from a splinter group of Arvandor elves that explored deep into the Underdark, a mysterious realm that lies beneath the mountains of the Kiln and beyond. Drow are typically subterranean creatures, being sensitive to sunlight. They form vast, sprawling cities deep underground, harnessing the otherwise inhospitable realm of the Underdark to suit their needs.

Basic Information

Anatomy

Drow typically possess stone-like skin that blends with their surroundings. This can range in practically any hue depending on their specific lineage. Drow are naturally gifted with low-light vision, those with exceptional darkvision possess eyes of a bright red hue. Typical drow hair is starved of pigmentation, in light greys/whites even at a young age. However there exist drow with darker hair that have evolved to live in the upper levels of the underdark.

Genetics and Reproduction

A theory exists among Aglaian scholars that Drow are descended from a union of elf and mountain dwarf, which could explain their slightly shorter stature, and natural affinity for the underground. However, many Drow scoff at this idea, as there is a history of animosity between the clans of the kiln and Drow cities, and neither could believe that they could share a common ancestor.

Additional Information

Perception and Sensory Capabilities

Drow are especially well-attuned for low-light, being able to see clearly in near-total darkness. However, this ability renders them highly sensitive to sunlight, forcing all but the most stubborn drow to make their lives underground.
