Construction Guide

Players may invest coin and labour into building structures for the betterment of themselves and the communities therein. More access to buildings and structures, means more spaces for specialized trades and activities to take place, as well as vacant dwellings for immigrants, and defense. What you decide to build may come in many forms and provide many benefits. This Construction Guide will teach you the step by step process of constructing buildings in downtime.

Once you have created a thread in downtime-rp (see Downtime Rules for rules and formatting), follow the steps below to start construction:
  1. First, declare what and where you would like to build. Ensure there are no permits or deeds for the land (ask DM), and the make a DC8 Strength Check to prepare the land. If you fail, try again the next day, you must pass to continue.
  2. Next, declare what size of building (see Crafting Basics) or, choose a Unique Structure. Pay the construction cost, if you're using hirelings to build it, pay 50% more.
  3. If you've hired hirelings, wait the remaining Construction Time.
  4. If you've decided to do the labour yourself, consult the Labour Guide. There is no need to make an additional thread. You must work the profession that best suits the composition of the structure (carpentry for a wooden house, masonry for a stone house).
  5. Other players or hirelings may give you advantage on your labour rolls.
  6. When the cost and time conditions are satisfied, the building has been constructed. All buildings come unfurnished, except for Unique Structures.
  7. Unique Structures are not modular, however player designed buildings are. You can add additional floors to your buildings by starting this process over. See Crafting Basics for rules on multi-leveled buildgings.
Now that it has been completed, it will appear in a new thread under player-housing-rp, where this will act as the RP instance for while inside the structure. See Repairing, Dismantling & Salvaging and Town Requisitions for more.
