Historical Context

The Flavian Amphitheater, better known as the “Coliseum” lies in the center of Carcino. Construction began during the reign of Emperor Mercurio, c. 72 CE, funded by the spoils from the Chauntean Second Temple after the fall of Druidism during the First Crusades. Built of concrete and stone, it is the largest amphitheater ever built, and one of the great wonders of ancient architecture and engineering. It could hold between 50 and 80 thousand spectators to watch gladiatorial matches, animal hunts, mass executions, and more.
“While the Colosseum stands, Carcino shall stand; when the Colosseum falls, Carcino shall fall; when Carcino falls, the world shall fall.”
— Saint Bene
