sV: The Elder Elemental Eye
General Summary
The mercenaries, with Pip in toe, headed towards the Hommlet Keep to give their first nightly report to Rufus Brunel. Meeting him deep beneath the keep in a private training hall, Rufus explained a bit of the history of the town of Hommlet, Saint Cuthbert, and Prince Thrommel, as well as his and Burne's introduction into this mess. Rufus explained that the group whose symbol was on the chest belonged to that of The Elder Elemental Eye, a group bent on enslaving every race and sacrificing them to their dark god of the Abyss, Lolth the Spider God of the Drow.
After this meeting, the mercenaries returned to the Inn of the Welcome Wench for much-needed sleep. Waking Bitty fullied healed Pip's internal injuries that he had received 3 days ago from the trapped chest. Heading downstairs Pip and Kiln would attempt to get information out of Xaod the Slayer regarding the ruin he cleared out. Xaod informed them that it was near Nulb and that any further questions should go to the Gnome who hired him. It was at this moment that Kiln focused his attention on the new woman in town, who introduced herself as Ingrith, a traveler who was born in the town of Hommlet.
Knowing this gnome to the be the same Nierethi Poscurian at Terrigan's the mercenaries paid him a visit that night. With coin in hand they bought the information they sought.
First was information on the cult, to which the gnome told the mercenaries about the nearby Moathouse and that it may or may not have some link to the group. The second was information on the Great Old Ones, which Kiln was told to seek out an old bookstore in Nulb. Third and lastly paid for, was information on the bird, which was revealed to Bitty (and the party) to be a mechanical follower, constructed by a gnome of unknown location or name.
Returning to the Welcome Wench, the group ran into Rufus having a meal alone. Informing him of the day's events and information on the bird, Rufus paid the mercenaries then asked for his food to be held for his return by Vesta, Rufus headed out of the Inn and was seen by Kiln running towards the Keep.
As Pip retired to his room he noticed a figure heading toward the mill. Curious as for the hour of the night and the knowledge of the cellar, he gathered Kiln and Bitty and heading outside to the stables began explaining what he saw. As this happened Kiln, looking past Pip to the Mill, saw it begin to smoke. Second later when it was fully aglow in flames, the rest of the group had noticed. Running at top speed the three mercenaries arrived at the mill minutes before any of the guards.
In front of the mill, waiting for the group, were three individuals armed to the teeth (one of them was the Tiefling seen days before). Seeing their quarry the unknown arsonists proclaimed to the group that the elder elemental evil had returned and that they should lay down their lives in service to the cult!
