Settling Debts

General Summary

Precision and Erevan were escorted by the Spadatore to the Ricci Bank, where they were asked what faction they were with before being placed in a temporary holding cell. After a few hours, they were taken out of the cell by Ilaria and brought under guard to the basement of the High Ride Casino. Once there Ilaria revealed that although the two of them had killed some of their men and attacked one of their associates, their interference caused the Tracery to take a closer look at Irnthi's books where they discovered the loan shark had been short-changing the criminal association to the tune of several thousands of gold. Ilaria then revealed the bound and gagged Irnthi and offered Precision the opportunity to kill him, which she took after some hesitation. Ilaria then told the party that she would call them square, and forgave the debt owed by Harold Merchantel.   Ilaria then revealed some news from Roselawn; apparently Prior Confessio had been arrested by the Crownsguard, but had given up the party's description and implicated them in the assassination plot; as such, the party would soon be wanted across Hildonia. Ilaria offered the Tracery's newly-expanded resources to make the investigation "go away," but in exchange she requested the party investigate a shipwreck for her. It seemed a Jairhic ship called the Leeuwarden had sunken near the Verdan Reef three years ago. That ship supposedly contained designs for a weapon that the Tracery was interested in. If the party recovered those designs, Ilaria would work to clear their names in Hildonia. The party agreed before catching a boat to Einstap, and was given two weeks to complete the task before the offer was rescinded.   Meanwhile, Lethe was in Einstap continuing to research a way to work with the arcaltium. He arrived at Kara Diamonti's shop for his meeting with her and ran into the same haughty elven noble he had run into the previous night. The noble thanked Kara for personally working on a commission for him and left. Lethe and Kara then discussed the crystals. Kara was very impressed and eager to work on the crystals, saying only once before had she worked with it when a priest came to her and commissioned her to carve daggers from the material. Kara said she could work with them, but it would be a long and expensive process (one small crystal could be cut per day, and it would cost 1000GP for each crystal). She did however offer to do four days of work for free if Lethe took care of a problem she had; an elf named Maethoril Oloxys was encouraging many of the elves in the Refugee District to go on strike, which was cutting into Kara's profits. She asked Lethe to stop his rabblerousing in exchange for a 4000GP discount, which Lethe agreed to.   As he left her shop Lethe was stopped by the elf from earlier, who identified himself as a wealthy businessman named Victor Elan. Victor said that he could see through Lethe's disguise spell and was either impressed by his bravery or shocked by his stupidity. Either way, it intrigued him and he invited Lethe to talk in his manor. At the Elan Estate Lethe and Victor spoke, and Victor offered to have his men get Maethoril out of the Refugee District if Lethe assisted Victor hurt his competition. He asked Lethe to burn down a warehouse belonging to the Gessler family, one of his competitors. Victor also required needed it to look like another of his competitors–the van der Roer family–did it by planting a body dressed in a van der Roer uniform in the warehouse. Lethe did Victor one better by reanimating the body and causing it to walk into the warehouse on its own. Victor was extremely impressed and offered Lethe to stay in the guest suite while waiting on his friends to arrive, before dispatching his men to retrieve Maethoril, Precision, and Erevan.   Meanwhile, Precision and Erevan had arrived in Einstap and found themselves in the Refugee District where they observed that the area seemed to be made up of two very distinct groups of elves with one camp loudly and ritualistically praying while the other faction immersed themselves in bacchanalian revelry. As Erevan began to get caught up in the party, a lull began to come over the crowd as people began to notice the burning warehouse. At that moment, Victor's men arrived to get Precision and Erevan out. Unfortunately, their arrival startled Precision who instinctively swung her axe, sparking a full-on riot as the elves began to attack Victor's men and city guards alike. In the nick of time, the two party members along with an extremely elderly, wizened elf were dragged out of the District by Victor's men a moment before a mass of angry elven refugees slammed into the fence.
