Volcanic Wastes
As with all environments within its home Realm, few but the Nalkarn are able to survive among the violent volcanoes and searing lava rivers of the Lower Realm's volcanic wastes. Even the ground is dangerous, being comprised of shattered shards of solidified magma. The entire environment is always scorchingly hot, even when it runs up against areas of ice deserts and its freely-flowing lava causes billows of steam to erupt where it meets solid snowbanks.
Geography
The landscape here is craggy and inconsistent. Volcanic peaks, lava rivers, sharp crevasses, and ragged outcroppings are all common here.
Localized Phenomena
Volcanic lightning can often be witnessed here, as can near-constant volcanic eruptions of varying levels of intensity, from viscous and bubbling to explosive and tempestuous.
Climate
The volcanic wastes are warm at the very least. At their worst, they're unbearably hot. The volcanic eruptions regularly taking place here sometimes whip up feverish, scorching winds, but on other occasions, the air is dead still and densely clouded with choking ash.
Fauna & Flora
As is the case with the rest of the Lower Realm, few living creatures make their homes here. The ones that do include the Nalkarn (particularly those of the Volcanic variety,) a host of strange birds, and reptiles of all sizes. Scrappy, fast-growing plants dig their roots into the cracks in old magma flows, seeking out the condensed layers of ash left behind after previous volcanic eruptions.
Natural Resources
The lack of useful resources here (among other things) make the volcanic wastes especially inhospitable. Full-sized trees can't grow in the constantly-changing landscape and the animals here are vicious and lean.
