Lore of the Deep

The Lore of the Deep (also called "the Deep Lore" by some) is a polytheistic religion that is predominantly practiced by residents of the western oceans of Auvia. It's central deities are Loa-Kana, Typhoon, and Territus, who are worshipped in the aspects of the Krakken, the Serpent, and the Shark respectively.   It's core tenants are of survival and strength drawn from the depths below, which can be granted to the faithful through ritual offerings of symbolic importance. Central to it's teachings is the prophetic promise of a calamitous "end-tide", in which the Gods Below will rise into the ocean above devour the "Great Pearl", and the world will be consumed in an endless flood.   The Lore of the Deep's most fervent worshipers are the fish-folk of the deep ocean, such as Sahauguin, Merrow, and Koalinths. Ocean denizens of the shallower coastal reefs, such as Merfolk and Sea-Elves, are rarely practitioners of the deep lore. This is not only because shallow-water societies are often the targets of ocean-dwelling raiders, but because elven-descended races are the spiritual children of Lunæthra, the religion's prime-evil deity.
Among surface dwellers, the Deep Lore is much less popular, but it does maintain worshipers among some groups. The Sea-Wolf Tribe of Orcs and some Goblinoid tribes in the Mournway are known to have embraced the Gods Below, and it has long been rumored that cults are forming within the underbellies of cities like Old Rialto, the City of Pillars, and even Bridgetown.
