Session 9: Cruel Horizons Report
General Summary
The players return to the dangerous streets of Ablefell and swiftly make their way back to Promenade Walk, where Elixin is waiting for them with a feast to celebrate their victory over Ydrenich. Though the merriments are quick as Elixin reveals that their victory is shortlived; the Empire will be after him and his blueprints soon enough and so they hatch a plan to escape the city involving decoy blueprints and old trading routes. So the next day, the party escort Elixin and Homjack through an old underground tunnel system beneath Ablefell that used to be used for wine transportation in an attempt to safely deliver them to the nearby city of Osgrove.
After a while, they find themselves in the middle of the East Market, as the tunnel system abruptly ends. A few mercenaries recognise Elixin from a wanted poster and confront him, resulting in backlash from the party. A massive brawl in the middle of the market then occurs with the players cutting down mercenary after mercenary. Kairon, knowing the true gravity of the situation, warned the others to just run, though after they refused to listen to him, he ended up paying the ultimate price, and died in a futile effort to save his friends. The rest of them hastily made their ways toward a sewer system, without time to mourn Kairon's death and eventually found an undersewer that could lead them right to one of Ablefell's main gates.
However, when they arrived there, they were quickly ambushed by André Calixis and the Imperial Army, who demanded the surrender of Elixin and his blueprints. Elixin accepts his fate and warns the party to end the Empire while they still can before giving himself and the decoy blueprints up to Calixis - awaiting his eventual death in Terren. Just as Calixis walks away, he turns around and murders Homjack in cold blood as well, cementing his position in the party's minds as a force not to be reckoned with - well, at least not yet. Those who survived run for safety in the Silver Grove Forest, where they encounter Marvin Bleak, the owner of the shabby Wanderlust Hotel, a mobile tavern that picks up adventurers lost in the forest. The players head for Holdenglade - in search of new friends, and a clean slate.
