Sir Lerog the Gnashed
Sir Lerog the Gnashed was a well respected Hobgoblin warrior of Holdenglade, first arriving in the city in 499 AXR. A retired commander of the army of the former territory Yslestein (now dissolved), he journeyed to the city at the end of the 5th century in search of more glory. Under the reign of Queen Ealdwyn, Lerog founded the Guild of Champions in Holdenglade - an Adventurers' Guild that would bring in money to the city and protect it from nearby threats. In 518 AXR, membership rose to an all time high, with 2000 members being part of Lerog's guild.
However, following the death of King Orthrond V, his son, Orthrond VI , increased taxation on the guild heavily, making it so the guild made just enough money to be self-sufficient but also couldn't amass enough power to threaten the King. The guild quickly lost members as guild rewards weren't now nearly as much as they used to be, though some loyal followers stayed by Lerog's side.
After years of trying to save a dying guild, Lerog was approached by the Masters of the Nine Elements, a local adventuring party wanting to stage a revolution against the corrupt King in Holdenglade, and later, against the Empire that tainted him. Lerog was convinced, seeing the benefits this would have for his people and the city, and so marched some of his men to the nearby Mesilist outpost that had been captured by the party weeks earlier in order to train them. On the day of the siege, he led the frontlines to Reaver's Keep, where he, the Guild of Champions, and the Masters of the Nine Elements breached the fortress and assassinated King Orthrond.
During the hiatus of the Masters of the Nine Elements to Elgen Isle, Lerog was made regent of the city on 28th Xǐàmís 529 AXR, receiving his knighthood in the process for his services. By this point, Emperor Barontyne had heard of the uprising in Holdenglade and sent envoys from the Imperial cities of Wildemoth and Tilbrinter to warn Lerog that if he didn't surrender the city in 60 days, he and his army would march down south and take it by force.
By the time the Masters of the Nine Elements had returned, Lerog had excess of 20 days to try and save the city. The party accepted the fact that the city would inevitably fall back into the hands of the Empire, and so the best they could do would be to evacuate its people and use the power of Ablio Nickelbraid's media to blackmail the Empire as savages during the battle, in hopes that their violence may spark further revolutions in the south.
In the days before the Empire attacked, Lerog travelled to the neighbouring city of Osgrove as part of an embassy, where he spoke to its mayor to negotiate sending evacuees from Holdenglade to the city. They reached an agreement and Lerog sent a message back to Holdenglade to begin evacuating the city. The hobgoblin didn't arrive back to Holdenglade until the day of the attack, where he was ambushed on his way through the southern gate, losing half of his men and becoming severely wounded. Following a fatal airstrike from one of the Empire's airships, Lerog died as a martyr and a symbol to the revolution.
