Lord-Governor Onar
The second-born son of a monarch, Onar grew up thinking he would be trained as a Spirit Bender, as is practically the destiny of all non-first born royalty. His older brother, Obin, was poised to inherit the throne from their father, Zhoj, once the time came. Because of this, Onar never followed the day to day affairs of governance when he was younger, instead spending the majority of his time accompanying his mother to royal events and happenings.
Growing up, Onar and Obin got along as well as brothers could and were never seen without each other. But, eventually, Obin was taken to train exclusively under their father, while Onar was left with their mother. While Obin trained in statecraft with his father, Onar was sent by his mother to train with the Fire Sages to learn philosophy and science along with fire bending. Over time, Onar and Obin became increasingly estranged. Obin became more militaristic, cold, and calculating, while Onar became more peace-loving, social, and gregarious.
When the time came, Onar left the Fire Islands to train under the Spirit Benders. Becoming a Spirit Bender was considered a great privilege by many benders, as Spirit Benders could tap into the Spirit World at any time and place. While training with the Spirit Benders, Onar met Caedis, a blood-bender turned spirit-bender, who quickly became a mentor for Onar during his training.
However, before Onar could complete his Spirit Bending training, his father suddenly fell ill, and Onar was immediatly called back to the Fire Isles. Onar returned to the Fire Isles to find his father on his deathbed. Zhoj told Onar that he could not trust Obin as leader of the Fire Isles. So, Zhoj decided to appoint Onar as Lord-Governor in hopes Onar would lead the Republic of the Fire Isles to a peaceful and prosperous future.
