Undercropolis
"The stone keep known as the House of Gray Wardens is built directly into a wall fortification that was part of the original Drow settlement. Atop the walls you see Rock Gnome defenders with dray helmets and tight black leathers watching for threats from beyond their borders. History
Technically this is a former Drow settlement. The Rock Gnomes moved in after a catastrophe, known as the Momento, destroyed the Drow that once lived here. The Momento happened hundreds of years ago, when an ancient Dromish wizard attacked the Drow of the Undercropolis and unleashed a tenth level spell that shattered time and trapped the Drow population of the Undercropolis in time. The Rock Gnomes inhabit the lowest most portion of the Undercropolis. Within the Gnomish inhabited portion of the Undercropolis and the Momento portion have Drow trapped in time, like statues. They have become adornments, coat racks, and monuments to a world stuck in time forever.
Any Drow that enter this area are frozen in time, trapped by the spell. This is the most ultimate protection that the Gnomes could ever hope to have.
Due to Erithien Darkmoon's willful blood letting, the settlement's boneyards rose up. While the skeletons and zombies of their ancestors meant them no harm, the Rock Gnomes destroyed them without learning this. The same event lead hundreds of other sentient undead to rise outside of the city. They were welcomed within the walls during the battle with the Rumble King to defend the city from the attack and to protect the Rock Gnomes from injury during the world shaking events that took place. For most of the Undercropolis, the undead are considered honoured friends.
