The Elder-Eternal War
The war that ended one age and began another one. The Elders were the greatest threat anyone has ever faced. The Blood War and even the Eternal Civil War pale in comparison to the overwhelming assault from the enemy force. If not for the return of the Eternals and the determination of reality's defenders, it is very likely this could've spelled the end of the universe as it was known. But instead, it heralded the beginning of the Eternal Age and the beginning of a new history for Avestra and the realms beyond. But for all those who say that it is over, the Eternals know the truth. This war will come again. For the Elders will never stop in their goal, not until the Eternals can find these eldritch beings and discover what they truly are. And how to truly stop them.
The Conflict
Prelude
The invasion of Gistra, the landing of the Gith, and the discovery of Furorum by the Harengon are tied into the Elders attacking the other planes of reality. The current timeline theory is that Harengon explorers discovered the plane during their explorations of the different realms. Supposedly, the Elders found out about the realms due to finding the Harengons who quickly escaped but time dilation delayed their arrival back home.
The Elders made landfall on Gistra, with the Aberrations serving as their soldiers while they stayed in their realm. The few survivors said that Gistra was devastated by the initial assault and it was mostly people fighting to get off world. The planet was slowly turned into a hive world with any Gith captured turned into a food source or turned into Aberrations as well. After that, they moved onto to the other realms.
The Gith landed on every realm they could find, warning everyone of the Elders. No one listened, embroiled in their own conflicts or believing these outsiders to be insane. And it would cost all the realms everything as the Elders' forces arrived.
Deployment
For worlds where subterfuege was possible, agents were sent to form cults and cause as much chaos as possible in the realm. This only worked worlds like Gistra, Nistra: The Plane of True Order and Chaos, and Faenum. All the other worlds were subject to invasion and brutal combat. When Avestra was reached, full invasion was preferred by this point considering the effort it took to break the cosmic barrier that protected the realm.
Battlefield
Every realm was a battleground and nowhere was safe. Villages, cities, towns, and the countryside were all fair game for the Elders in their quest to eradicate reality.
Outcome
- The Eternals and the defenders of reality won against the Elders
Aftermath
Historical Significance
The Eternal-Elder War marked the end of the Ancient Age and the beginning of the Eternal age, named after the return of one of the strongest Immortal species in the universe. And with them around, a new version of history was formed as they lived through most of the events in the Eternal Age and could accurately document them. While these Eternal historians are few and far between, the ones that are there are completely invaluable.
Legacy
Everything changed after the end of the war. Avestra was now completely open to travel from realms farther than their moons. Countless people died over the course of the war and led to the shift of ideology in many people through the world. The Giants and Dragons returned to Avestra in the wake of the conflict, eager to cement their legacy as the rulers of the world and not the "lesser" races.
The Eternals were now a constant presence in the world, some good, some bad, and others neutral. Every faith was shocked by this revelation that there were beings from the beginning of the universe and even served as the creators of the universe. Even species such as the Celestials and Fiends began to wonder what place they had in the world with beings such as the Eternals around to take their place.
