Vedalken
You know, I never really understood the Vedalken. They're a strange bunch, even stranger than those Tykriel fellas up in the mountains. These guys look like us, but they talk like a Tykriel sometimes. Or maybe Tykriels talk like them. And they always talk about Edrinia as if it's not their home. Like they came from some other continent that we don't know about. I wonder what that place was like if the Vedalken came from it.
Basic Information
Anatomy
Vedalken are tall and slender humanoids with features very similar to humans. They are also partially amphibious where they can breath underwater for 1 hour. After this, they have to naturally get rid of that accumulated water over the course of their sleeping period.
Civilization and Culture
History
Vedalken are native to another land currently unknown to the currently known 4 continents. However, they arrived on this quadrant of Avestra through the Underoads, meeting the Dwarves, Gnomes, and Tykriels during the times of the Under Empires. They served as volunteers for the Simic Hybrids and aided in innovations as well.
And when the Under Empires fell and the Underoad with them, the Vedalken's source of knowledge was lost. Not many of them came out of the Underoad in this section of Avestra, instead returning home. The ones that stayed were in a strange new land and as such, they stayed in places where they felt the most comfortable. This usually included secluded places on the coastline or within mountain holds where races like the Tykriels lived. After the Elders were beat by Avestra and the Eternals, the Underoads have begun to be explored again and the Simic Hybrids have begun to wake up as well, some recognizing long lost family across the land.
With both of these situations going on, perhaps the Vedalken could find their original homeland once again or help Avestra learn what they had lost with the fall of the Underoads.
Interspecies Relations and Assumptions
Due to the dispassionate and controlled emotions Vedalken display, they usually get along great with Tykriels who are tied more to logic. However, this puts them on the opposite side with races like Humans, Gnomes, and Elves, who are far more emotive. However, for the Vedalken who grow up amongst them, they usually grow to be as emotive as them, facing the opposite issue of their dispassionate brethren.
The Simic Hybrids related to Vedalken are seen as lost kin who must be helped in this new world they find themselves in. Some view the Vedalken of the current date as strange outsiders while others recognize them as descendants of family they once had. Regardless, both wish to find their homeland and have spent generations digging through the Underoad where they can to try and find the path back to the mysterious continent they came from.
