Midri's Peaks

A sizable mountain range known most notably for its twin volcanoes Dolgan and Olagg. In their earlier years the two were prolific, oft to spew molten lava in the surrounding region, but have since died down with Olagg becoming completely dormant.   Nestled into the side is Dar Boldar, and hidden near the base is the complex entrance to Volttoggle.

Mythos

The mythos behind the range is that it was previously one large mountain conquered by fabled demi-god, Midri. Midri's wife bore him twin sons, Olagg and Dolgan. The two were fiercely competitive, particularly over matters concerning who would inherit the the prized mountain. When the tension reached its boiling point after years of constant bickering, the two ascended the peak with intentions to fight to the death over it. They fought for a month, and just as the killing blow was to be struck, Midri, fed up with his failed attempts to make peace, roared so loudly that the mountain split itself in two. Dolgan was given one and Olagg the other.

Geography

It is a long mountain range reaching incredible heights. Dolgan is covered in molten rock and obsidian, and when ignited, lava is said to pour down in rivers. Olagg starkly contrasts this with snowy capped peaks, but is unable to house much in the way of flora due to the fires and choking smoke from Dolgan.

Fauna & Flora

Considering the dangers of Dolgan, most of the wildlife grows and settles on Olagg, primarily the gryphon. A winged beast made to the likeness of a lion and an eagle, these giant, bird like creatures create nests overlooking the peak where they hunt the goats and rams nearby.   Although uncommon and extremely ill advised, gryphons have been proven to be tameable. Those that are tamed can form incredible bonds with their rider, proving to be more loyal and steadfast than life long friends. However, because of how fickle and dangerous they are, most would be tamers are instead harried and torn apart to be transported to feed gryphon young. They are also extremely territorial over their eggs, only second to dragons, and so retrieving them is an epic conflict in and of itself.   Otherwise it is also home to mountain goats and rams who reside further up and along its rocky craggs. Near the base settle large bears and the occasional wolf pack, though they tend to gravitate further away from Dolgan to avoid any lava runoff that may threaten their dwellings.

Natural Resources

The mines inside of either are rich with ore and gemstones. Dolgan features more metal in various forms such as the many iron baring cavern walls, while Olagg houses crystals, some even infused with essence the further down it is prospected. Otherwise it is a natural source of obsidian.   In these caves, mushrooms are said to grow as well.
