The Caverns Of Disposed Enterprises (CODE)

"What do you mean the gravimetric auxiliary synthesizer has a broken refractory!? It's completely unusable now! Agh, take it to CODE!"
— Milbe "Sparko" Copperedge

As gnomes invent and explore their genius, their eccentricity begins to show. This can result in scrapped projects or machines pushed to the point of breaking resulting in the all-too-common theme of disposing the work in progress, and their common place of disposing said would-be creations is The Caverns Of Disposed Enterprises, though it is normally referred to as "the Junkyard", or CODE. This expanse of land is next to Volttoggle and it frequently utilized by its denizens.   While some gnomes see the merit in recycling, most have no qualms with simply filling the giant expanse in the cavern next to their home with these scraps, resulting in a wasteland of discarded products as far as the eye can see, and stacked to the cave ceiling in some areas. Because of the abundance of dangers, gnomish children are forbidden from playing in the region, though many rebellious explorers will sneak about and wander inside.

Fauna & Flora

The only flora growing would be the mushrooms that inhabit the caverns.
The many scrapped projects have begun to attract rust loving creatures come to be known as 'Rustbugs'. These dog sized threats emit a saliva capable of breaking down metals into rust, which they find as a particular delicacy. Their strong desire to eat can lead them to attacking wanderers that have even an inkling of metal, ranging from obvious sources like giant broadsword blades, to even overlooked forms like the aluminum clasp to hold a cork down on a healing vial. Although seen more as vermin than actual threats, their voracious appetite can result in many swarming the unsuspecting wanderer.   In a bit of poetic irony seeing as the junkyard is not fit to hold wildlife, many scrapped projects have been abandoned for minutia, and are mostly working. This includes synthetic animals such as crude dog automatons or mechanical wildcats, and while many are docile or act in accordance to how they might in nature, its expected that these discarded projects have a literal screw loose, and may act on more destructive impulses.
