Volttoggle
Tucked far away into the same mountain range as Dar Boldar, Volttoggle stands as the capital and visual representation of gnomes. Eccentric, impractical, and inventive, it could be the greatest city known to Ayn if not held back by sheer impracticality.
An example of this is its signature invention, the titular 'Volt Toggle' from which the settlement is named after. Created by Nikolo 'Volt' Teslabocker, it harnesses the essence within the stored crystal into electricity which helps power a lot of their buildings and inventions. However, in true gnome fashion, it was created by a fleeting spark of luck and sheer brilliance, and as such has never been able to be replicated, only repaired and maintained.
There are two entrances to Volttoggle: A long tunnel extended between Dar Boldar and Volttoggle, and a vault door stuck into the side of the mountain, tucked away and with complicated measures to open and enter. Settled close to it are The Caverns Of Disposed Enterprises (CODE) which serve as a junkyard for their many abandoned or failed inventions.
Demographics
Gnomes are the species that inhabit the city. While others, so long as they are civil, are allowed in, the cramped quarters and odd inhabitants deters any would-be settler.
Government
Gnomes value invention over anything, and as such elect a leader based on the impressiveness of their creation. This becomes the 'Grand Tinker' who rules until their passing, at which point another invention display is hosted and a new leader is elected.
Industry & Trade
Although they attempt to sell their inventions out and into the world, their eccentric ways and nonsensical applications means that no one will buy them. Instead, their main service utilized is appraising and researching oddities.
Infrastructure
The denizens have excavated a long and smooth tunnel that extends from Volttoggle to Dar Boldar.
At the base of each end is a basin meant to house a giant metal ball that can be opened and entered. In this ball is a set of straps able to bind four people safely. When entered, a plunger connected to a spring is pulled back and then released, forcefully knocking the ball down the tube to the other side.
Essentially this is a glorified giant pinball that is boarded and then launched to the other side. Although effective, it is not a preferred means of transportation, chiefly because of the danger and absurdity of it all.
Architecture
Their buildings are mostly constructed of metal and look almost like tin cans, clearly suited more for function over form.
Cool, I like it. Although I’d like to know more about how the average Gnome lives in the city, and more of its history
