Eldnyng

Eldnyng, also known as the Breath of Hope and the Liberated, is a major supporting character in Reckoning and one of the Six Divine Beasts in Wraiths and Deicide.

Appearance

Before the Reckoning, Eldnyng was an Ildsif Kohri gladiator. She had unruly mossy hair pulled aside in a loose braid, a tired peridot eye, and faint red warpaint over her dusky skin. She bore the tail, ears, and antlers of a stag, despite being female. She kept her bad eye covered. Her armor consisted of a breastplate, mail skirt, one shoulderguard, and a flowing white cape.   After the Reckoning, Eldnyng appears as a near-incorporeal stag comprised of verdant wildgrowth, new plantlife sprouting with every step.

Personality

Pre-Reckoning
Eldnyng was a straightforward soul who wasted little time on empty words. After her capture, she became more withdrawn, reckless, and solemn.   Her whole life, she struggled with the vague sensation of aimlessness, secretly longing for a higher purpose or calling. As far as reality demanded, however, she sought her freedom first; holding the cycle of nature sacred, her enslavement was a great crime.   Post-Reckoning
It is truly a thing of irony that by releasing the fetters of the Apostles, Eldnyng ended up a prisoner once more, unable to leave her glade lest the barrier fall. Over time, her Confliction caused her to grow a sense of detachment from the rest of the world, helpless to change it and wishing to simply be left alone.

Role

Post-Reckoning
  • Eldnyng maintains the Southern portion of the barrier around Aypavoc. Her domain is Eldwood, and she cannot leave the Spirit Tree.
  • Eldnyng's season is the third of the year, where verdant mists bring a great blossoming and overgrowth. Creatures born in her season have green eyes.
  • Her divine domains are hope, growth, hooves, nature, light, and ungulata.
  • Her conflicts are helplessness and imprisonment.

History

Pre-Reckoning
Although Eldnyng always had a natural talent for combat, her birthright in the caste system of the Kohri was to be a gatherer. She enjoyed fulfilling her duty, not bothering to think too much of what-ifs.   In the war, the Ildsif were not unified under any one leader; as such, there was disagreement among the tribes over whether to coexist pacifistically or fight back. Her tribe did the former, and was unfortunately captured to be used as slaves in fields, brothels, and the arena. Due to her unusually large stature, Eld was selected to be a gladiator.   Shedding the blood of other Ildsif, Eldnyng told herself it was only natural to kill or be killed. Still, the events rotted her out from the inside; it was unnatural for the Nvaon to toy with their lives as entertainment, and it disgusted her.   After Fastid freed her, she decided to aid him in his impossible quest out of a sense of duty, redemption, and having no idea what else to do. As such, she faced the obstacles before them grimly and gracefully.   Post-Reckoning
Afterwards, the remaining Divine Beasts erected the barrier around Aypavoc, attempting to help the survivors of the cataclysm recover while they masked the history of magic and the suffering of the world. Considering her debt repaid, Eldnyng withdrew to the forests, slumbering fitfully as the curse wracked her body.
