Crowns and Beasts

Crowns and Beasts is a widespread card game in Azimuth. Variants of the game are played across the continents. In Tarteria, a version called "Queens and Khans" is played.

Description

Players place their bets and are dealt cards. Players call, raise, or fold in rounds until all bets are even. Players that raise can be dealt another card to replace one of their previous cards. Players then compare hands. Whoever has the best hand wins the pot.

Game Mechanics

Each player places the ante and then rolls 3d6, which they keep hidden. Players take turns to call, raise, or fold until all bets are even. If a player chooses to raise, they may reroll one of their hidden d6, keeping the new value. Once all bets are even, players then compare hands.   Each hand is ranked based on the following list of categories:
  • Three of a Kind (5, 5, 5)
  • Straight (2, 3, 4)
  • Two of a Kind (2, 2, 1)
  • High Roll (6, 2, 1)
In similar hands, the value of the highest dice determines the tie break. If that is tied, then the next highest die is compared, and so on. In the event a tie cannot be broken based on die values, the tied players each roll a d6 and compare them until the tie is broken. Whoever has the best hand wins the pot.
