Background
Ilmendwyth is a wood elf from the eastern half of Haradren Gaer Arnad. At some point he joined the Sacred Guardians and swore to defend the World Tree. In 4A 995, Ilmendwyth was one of the Guardians under the command of Sacred Guardian Quarivon when the Zenethian Heroes arrived at the World Tree. During the battle where the Heroes were arrested, Ilmendwyth shot an arrow that pierced Grupe, the Monster Hunter. As some point at least two decades prior to 5A 352, Ilmendwth met Celanoth Thoromel informally in Haradren during one of Celanoth's return visits. Before 23 Madaet 5A 352, Ilmendwyth left Soretta, the Undying Aristocracy, by ship and sailed towards Calen Estel in the Serra Coast region of Tarteria. He travelled on the Amarth'rilain under the command of Captain Aralee Goldfall. During the voyage, he played cards with the crew.Campaign Two: Lightbringers
Session 0.3 - The Amarth'rilain
On 23 Madaet 5A 352, Ilmendwyth arrived to Calen Estel on the Amarth'rilain. Ilmendwyth ascended the Column Stairs and entered the colony. He located the Phoenix's Flight enchanter shop where he met Celanoth Thoromel. Celanoth let him know the associate carrying the needed items for Ilmendwyth was captured and asked for his help rescuing him from Lothered's Lighthouse. Ilmendwyth agreed and Celanoth provided him with enchanted boots, a lockpick set, and the coded language he and his contacts use. Celanoth said he would arrange for the Amarth'rilain to be ready for immediate departure. Ilmendwyth scouted out the lighthouse, and in the evening he approached. He knocked out the guard on the bridge to the lighthouse and snuck inside. He released Rudok and they recovered the sending stone and the aid caravan flyer for Ilmendwyth, and a small satchel for Celanoth that Rudok had been carrying. They quickly fled the lighthouse and went back to the Phoenix's Flight shop. They let Celanoth know what had transpired and Ilmendwyth returned the enchanted boots. Celanoth said he hoped that this would be the beginning of a good relationship between them. Ilmendwyth left the shop and took backroads to the Landing while avoiding the Cliff Guard. He descended the Column Stairs and boarded the Amarth'rilain again. The Amarth'rilain sailed northwards, and over the next few days passed by the Hooked Reefs and the Pandia Gulf. Ilmendwyth used the sending stone to communicate clunkily with Celanoth, and Celanoth used spells of Sending to further communicate with him. When asked what codename he wanted, Ilmendwyth replied, "Feather on the Wind". They sailed around the northern horn of Tarteria and beyond Port Haville. The ship continued westward along the coast. On the morning of 1 Adroth 5A 352, in the distance Ilmendwyth could see the coastal town of Porgorag, and the ship approached.Session 1 - Silvery-White Threads
On 1 Adroth 5A 352, Ilmendwyth arrived at the Darksteel Foundry in Porgorag on the Amarth'rilain. Captain Aralee asked if there was anything else he required and he said no. At the docks, Ilmendwyth showed distaste after the interaction with Vitibuk and hid his face behind his mask. Along with the other caravan members, he met with Borscha Brickwell and Captain Levka Ruslan. During the meeting, Ilmendwyth took note of all the other caravan volunteers that had been hired for the job. When he was questioned by Mortimr Gwathagoldrin, Ilmendwyth said, "I come from many places." After the party asked questions of Borscha and Ruslan, they decided to head out to the city to see what could be done about the missing carriages.Session 2 - Searching for Carriages
Ilmendwyth went to the Quayside Stables and asked about the missing carriages. A stableman checked a manifest which listed the carriages were sent to the Hands of Ore two days ago, but the signature for who completed the order was left blank. Ilmendwyth asked if there were other carriages they could have instead, and the stableman said that all the other carriages were tied up in other contracts. Ilmendwyth asked if other guilds kept their carriages here as well. The stableman said the Hero Hunters Facility didn’t do business with the Quayside Stables and maintained their own stock of carriages. With some extra information about the city and the location of the Hero Hunters, Ilmendwyth asked the stableman to watch for his companions and direct them to the Hero Hunters if they came looking for him.Session 3 - Guildhalls and Churches
In the evening of 1 Adroth 5A 352, the party eventually made their way back to the Darksteel Foundry. As Romsca waited outside, Ilmendwyth sought her out. He suggested she talk to Borscha Brickwell about contacting the Hero Hunters, and Romsca went to Borscha’s office after asking Ilmedwyth to watch for Mortimr’s return. Romsca later returned to Ilmendwyth by the doorway and continued to wait for Mortimr, and Ilmendwyth went to rest. In the morning of 2 Adroth 5A 352, Ilmendwyth woke early from his trance and quietly exited the room. In the Foundry, he spent time in the common area, watching the crew in the area. At the Hero Hunters Facility, the party agreed to exchange their services for covered wagons. Across the campus, they approached the abandoned storehouse and prepared to investigate.Session 4 - Dusty Dens
The party headed to the abandoned storehouse of the Hero Hunters Facility. Ilmendwyth checked around the building for damage and accessways. Inside, they investigated the abandoned manor and found clues to the previous residents. As they moved into the basement, demons and oozes attacked the party. In the battle, he shot arrows into the creatures. During a lull in the fighting, he quickly investigated the animal carcasses in the basement and the dug tunnels leading to the sewers. After the battle, the party argued if they should close the tunnels or enter them and investigate and Ilmendwyth wanted to go further in, but while they debated, Mortimr collapsed the tunnels.Session 5 - Reports of Demons
After their battle, while most of the others returned to report to Haugon, Ilmendwyth remained behind with Romulus. They dug through the collapsed tunnel and entered the city's sewers. Inside, Ilmendwyth noted the path the damage from the oozes and demons, and they followed the source towards the Yew Well. When they heard the sounds of other creatures in the sewers, they elected to fall back and found a nearby sewer entrance the party could use in the future.Session 6 - Strings of Prophecies
Ilmendwyth and Romulus emerged from the city’s sewers. When a nearby child noticed them, the child said she liked Ilmendwyth’s mask. After she left, Ilmendwyth wondered aloud why Porgorag did not have a proper orphanage to care for her. The different groups reconvened at Cardinal Desires. On their way, Ilmendwyth shared info about the orphan child he and Romulus saw and asked about orphanages in town, which Romsca answered. Inside, the party shared the various information they’d gathered. While they discussed and rested, Ilmendwyth noticed the two hobgoblin sisters. Ilmendwyth held open the shawls covering the entrance and motioned them both inside. Naran approached and spoke prophecies to them all. As she did, silver energy filled the room and spread to each of them, like strings of light woven in a web. To Ilmendwyth, she said, “A tree mourns. A tree’s distant touch withers. A tree watches your path. Allies tied to your string of fate walk a line between right and wrong. Choices ahead of you are not yours alone to make.” The energies then broke and dissipated and Naran fainted. The party then returned to the Darksteel Foundry. The party went to the warehouse and confronted the goliath who was acting strangely.Session 7 - Brawl for the Box
The party confronted the goliath guarding the strange black box and a fight ensued. Ilmendwyth first observed Captain Ruslan to gauge his reaction to the fight before he closed in and traded blows with the goliath. As Romsca grabbed onto the goliath’s waist and Demitri jumped onto his back, Ilmendwyth knocked the goliath out. Afterwards, Ilmendwyth questioned Arwin and Romsca about how a fight broke out. During the party’s discussion after the fight, Ilmendwyth quietly listened. Then, Ilmendwyth went with Demitri and Arwin to the Church of Zenethia. At the church, Ilmednwyth helped Demitri convince Godsguard Ankhan to join him to the Darksteel Foundry. Ilmendwyth could tell he and the Godsguard were noticed as they went across the city, as she was a prominent city official and a dragonborn. On the way, Ilmendwyth provided further details to the Godsguard. Outside the entrance to the Foundry, Ankhan asked Ilmendwyth about the gathered crowd of civilians. Ilmendwyth said they were seemingly unhappy with the aid caravan. After Ankhan repaired the modified memory, Ilmendwyth asked how long it would take for him to be coherent again.Session 8 - Disparate Pieces
After the green ring was revealed and Godsguard Ankhan was hurt, Ilmendwyth suggested they should not test the limits of the ring without knowing more about it first. He suggested they return the ring to the box in the meantime. When Arwin asked to see the ring and revealed his masterwork arrows, Ilmednwyth agreed to. However, Romsca denied this. When Mortimr was compelled to open the box again and grab the ring, Ilmendwyth and Romsca pulled him away. During their discussions, Ilmendwyth asked Ankhan if the Church of Zenethia had a place to store an item like the ring. She said the church does, however she was hesitant having an item that "reacts so negatively to divine energies being anywhere near the church." Romulus and Ilmendwyth wanted to still head into the sewers. Ilmendwyth said he’d be willing to head down there without the rest of the party, if needed, going so far as saying he would catch up with the caravan later on. However, several party members were tired and spent. They chose to rest and wake up early, before sunrise, and head into the sewers together. As the party ate and discussed, Ilmendwyth went “bird watching” alone outside.Session 9 - Befouled Waters
In the morning, Ilmendwyth neatly made his bed, and he brought food and coffee from the cafeteria for the others. They went to Westfield to the sewer access marked by Romulus. They removed the rusted grate and entered the city’s sewers. Ilmendwyth led the way, getting them back as far as they had previously scouted. Ilmendwyth heard the sounds of other things in the sewers. He prepared his equipment, and they continued on. Reaching a series of intersections, they noticed several creatures nearby. Ilmendwyth noted large amphibians and rodents in the tunnels. The group debated if they should put these things out of their misery, but elected to try to not risk a larger fight. However, Gray Oozes that were hanging on the ceiling dropped on them suddenly and the other beasts were drawn towards them. In the battle, the bloated body of an orc exploded and coated Ilmendwyth in bile, poisoning him. He moved away from the fray and recovered from the poison, then fired several more arrows.Session 10 - The Sunken Shrine
While continuing forward, Ilmendwyth took point again with Mortimr. In the Spring of the Natant Yew, the party faced two Bulezau and other demons. In the combat, Ilmendwyth shot arrows from the doorway. When Romsca went down, Ilmendwyth grabbed the potion from Romulus’s staff and with his wood elf speed, he administered it to Romsca, and she was brought back. Now in the room, when Chaka used new magic, Ilmendwyth noticed a green glow emanating from beneath his helmet. The fiends were killed and prevented from completing a spell circle which would have created a source of corruption beneath Porgorag. After the battle, Ilmendwyth investigated the yew tree and the shrine. He noticed an access beneath the water, which could be enough for a creature to slip inside without crossing the degraded protective barrier.Session 11 - Porgorag's Light
Ilmendwyth led the group as they left the sewers to speak with Godsguard Ankhan. The party told her what transpired, and Ilmendwyth provided information about the corrupted creatures they battled. Ankhan gave them about some information she’d gathered about the Eight-Pronged Residuum Ring. Ilmendwyth helped dig through journals and notes in the church’s office for information about the shrine. After learning of the clue left by Argilla, son of Kla, Ilmendwyth helped Romulus with a prayer to Gaia, The Allmother, thinking it could be related. The prayer worked and seemingly activated the statue of Joseppe, the Shadow Mage, revealing a hidden spell scroll. Most of the group chose to accompany the Godsguard back to the shrine. After the spell was successfully cast and the protective barrier was reinforced, Ilmendwyth congratulated Romsca, saying she didn’t stutter even once during the casting.Session 12 - Connections
The party regrouped at the Oknar Offices with Godsguard Ankhan. They met with Oknar Jod and Watchguard Inzun, where they discussed their actions in the sewers and their concerns with the Coinguard. Ilmendwyth shared information about the giant rats and frogs they battled in the sewers, as well as the body of an orc they found. At the Oknar’s direction, Ankhan cast a Zone of Truth spell, and Ilmendwyth chose to not resist the effects. After the discussions, the Oknar thanked the group and invited them back to the city for the Champion's Conquest celebration later in the month. After leaving, they made their way towards the Hero Hunters Facility. They saw the Coinguard leaving, who noticed Mortimr and quickly went a different direction. As the Coinguard left, Ilmendwyth noticed him grab a golden key of some kind from his pocket. Inside, Haugon paid the group for their service and asked for their aid finding a lost Hero Hunters group in the west. When Haugon brought up Sacred Guardian Quarivon, Ilmendwyth said he had his own connections with Quarivon and said they had never mentioned him or Zenthai's Eyes. He continued, saying that since their goals seemed aligned, Ilmendwyth offered to be “an extension of Quarivon’s will.” After they left, the group decided to go to the Glistening Hog Tavern to east and rest.Session 13 - Growing Ties
In the Glistening Hog Tavern, the party ate a late brunch, rested, and talked. At Demitri's suggestion, they played a drinking game and answered questions about themselves. Over the course of the conversation, Ilmendwyth revealed information about himself. Ilmendwyth said he’s been shooting a bow his whole life, and he was taught by the “best instructors of Haradren for quite some time.” He said he was a member of the Sacred Guardians sworn to protect the World Tree. When asked about the elves’ interest in the caravan, he said their interest was in the spreading corruption and that the caravan was of “little importance” to him. When the conversation shifted to Romsca tribe and the world’s view of gnolls, Ilmendwyth said he was old enough to have seen the Manslayer War firsthand and the perceptions of gnolls had changed rapidly over the course of the Fifth Age. During the meal, Gertrude and Romsca noticed a green glowing from among Ilmendwyth’s possessions. He excused himself and went outside, saying he needed to use the restroom. He returned shortly after. Ilmendwyth received a message, which asked after the "nest" Ilmendwyth was near. It also made mention that "that falcon was fluttering" and said he was working on it. Ilmendwyth replied, saying, "the nest has been broken". After they finished their meal, Demitri shared a spare Earring of Message with Ilmendwyth. When Watchguard Inzun joined them, Ilmendwyth asked if the Coinguard would be suspicious if he saw Inzun at the tavern later on, and she said yes.Session 14 - Voltha's Walk
In Westfield, Mortimr determined the glass vial that appeared was the exact one Minagak just used to provide Chaka’s sample. Ilmendwyth and Mortimr were not able to source of the eerie music. The party continued across town towards Eastfield. They reached a section of several specialty shops called Voltha’s Walk. Ilmendwyth visited Cloak and Trident, First Mountain Jewels, and Pages for Ages.Session 15 - Snakes and Smokescreens
The party regrouped at the Darksteel Foundry and took time to prepare for their evening meeting. In the evening, they returned to the Glistening Hog Tavern. To prepare, Arwin shared some of the crafted bullhead arrows with Ilmendwyth, and they took positions on the rooftops on either side of the tavern. After the Coinguard arrived and began speaking with Mortimr, Arwin kept in contact with Ilmendwyth, as he had line of sight to the conversation. When the Coinguard tried to flee, Ilmendwyth’s line of sight was cut off as smoke filled the room. He moved to the roof nearest the entrance. Chaka messaged Ilmendwyth and the elf informed him Gorod was disguised as Kororsh, and they watched for the Coinguard to try and leave.Session 16 - Planting Seeds, Parting Gifts
The party regrouped, leaving the tavern to investigate Gim Gorod's Residence. Ilmendwyth picked the lock to the gate, and they went inside and explored. Ilmendwyth appreciated the fern on the dining table. Demitri used the key to try to open a locked wardrobe, and the wardrobe smashed him back. Along the bottom, Ilmendwyth felt and found a hidden switch. He pressed it, which moved the wardrobe to the side, revealing a secret safe. Inside the safe they found Gim Gorod’s journal. Ilmendwyth heard movement and saw city guards securing the front entrance. They left out the back and Ilmendwyth tried to pick the back lock, but was burned by the enchanted lock. They instead climbed the back fence. At the Darksteel Foundry, they discussed the journal’s contents. After, they rested. Ilmendwyth meditated, and was later awoken by Chaka’s nightmare. In the morning, they decided what to do with the Eight-Pronged Residuum Ring. After, they prepared to leave. Along with the rest of the Lightbringers, Ilmendwyth passed by the Statue of Grupe, where he paused to place a hand on the figure, and then left Porgorag with the aid caravan, headed south.Session 17 - Setting Out
On 4 Adroth 5A 352, Ilmendwyth and the others set out from Porgorag southwards on the Orc Highway. On the road the first day, Ilmendwyth stood at the front, keeping an eye on the road along with Captain Ruslan. Ruslan asked Ilmendwyth if he was familiar with Tarteria, and they idly made conversation as they walked. As evening came, Captain Ruslan ordered camp, and the caravan pulled off the road. Ilmendwyth, Romulus, and Arwin went out hunting, and Ilmednwyth took down a large boar. Romulus asked to trade the beets he found for the credit of hunting the boar, and Ilmendwth agreed. During the evening watches, another of the guards approached Ilmendwyth. The half-orc asked him if he could bag a boar for the rest of the group next time. Ilmendwyth regarded him and said he would see what he could do. Looking over the rest of the guards, Ilmendwyth noted several were keeping to themselves, including a hooded tiefling. Ilmendwyth also noticed that one of the guards must have slipped away during the day, as there was now one less guard in the caravan. The next day on 5 Adroth 5A 352, they continued on. As they got underway, Ilmendwyth noted that the same eagle still soared high above them in the updrafts, and he made a note to continue watching it. As evening came, Ilmendwyth noted that a few more of the other guards had left the group through the day, including the tiefling he had seen earlier.Session 18 - Cards and Conversation
In the evening of 5 Adroth, Ilmendwyth kept an eye out for potential game to hunt. From nearby, the half-orc guard, who previously asked Ilmendwyth if he could get a boar for him and his group, gave the elf a thumbs up. Ilmendwyth nodded back noncommittally. Romsca and Chaka joined Ilmendwyth as he set out. It was quick to trail the tracks of a large pack of wild boars, and Ilmendwyth expertly aimed and took down a large adult. As the rest of the pack scattered, Ilmendwyth did not take another shot at them. Romsca helped to field dress the boar, and she asked Ilmendwyth about his experience with the Manslayer War to help speak to Arwin better. Ilmendwyth acknowledged that Arwin’s Brancan heritage or his time with the Brancana Rangers may be a factor. Ilmendwyth had heard rumors of continued fighting between the rangers and beastfolk in the Wild Lands, though the rumors were unclear who the aggressors were. Ilmendwyth said, “Arwin doesn’t seem to be a brutish soldier. He can think for himself, and I believe that even if he does not see it now, he will see that not all beastfolk are the same. You are not your people. You are Romsca.” The group returned to camp, and the boar was prepared and shared amongst all the caravan guards. Ilmendwyth gave a large chunk to the goliath, Cirro, and he grunted his appreciation. Nearby, Ilmendwyth also provided some to the half-orc from before and his group. Ilmendwyth was invited by the group to play several rounds of Queens and Khans. During the overnight watches, Ilmendwyth noticed a maned wolf on the outskirts of the camp, seemingly drawn to the scents of boar and food. As he watched, it wandered away into the grasses.Session 19 - The Roadside Cairn
Ilmendwyth noted the blinking Sending Stone in his possession. He stepped away from the caravan as they started to pack up camp, while he noted the flying eagle above them head away towards the southwest. He answered the Sending Stone, receiving a coded message. Ilmendwyth replied back and rejoined the caravan as they headed out on 6 Adroth. While walking, Ruslan made idle conversation with Ilmendwyth. He asked if it was difficult for the elf to be so far from Haradren Gaer Arnad, and Ilmendwyth replied that it was. Ruslan asked if Ilmendwyth planned to return home after the caravan, and he said it would depend on what other work was to be done afterwards. During the overnight watches, Arwin asked Ilmendwyth about his impressive bowman skills and Ilmendwyth returned the compliment. They agreed it was taking time to adjust to Tarteria. They had similar thoughts on shooting becoming second nature and instinct. Ilmendwyth said the ability to read the wind was the mark of a good archer. Awkwardly, Arwin said he would be ready to listen to any teaching Ilmendwyth might be willing to provide. Near the end of the days travel on 7 Adroth, the caravan approached an old battlefield from the Tarterian War. Ilmendwyth recommended to Ruslan that none of the guards go hunting that night. While Romulus spent time digging in the field, Ilmendwyth kept watch. As the minotaur’s lantern light moved around, he thought he say a shape in the grasses, but nothing was there when he looked again.Session 20 - Drawn to Fire
In the night, Romulus continued his ritual and Ilmendwyth watched over him. Demitri alerted Ilmendwyth to shaped he saw in the grasses, and both watched as a young, unkempt half-orc named Drok snuck to the edge of the tall grass and looked over the caravan. At the sight of him, Ilmendwyth loudly whistled. Everyone asleep started, and the shapes in the grass took off running. The rest of the group captured and interrogated Drok. Once Ilmendwyth saw that the group had things under control, he turned his attention back to Romulus’s fire and the old battlefield. In the field he saw the ghosts of orc soldiers. They lurched and rushed forward. Ilmendwyth quickly whistled an alert and fired his bow, but the arrow flew through the specter easily. He stayed near Romulus as the rest of the group reacted to Ilmendwyth’s alert. As the ghosts approached, Ilmendwyth was frightened by the ghastly appearance and aged thirty years in a moment. He moved around the fire to remain close to Romulus and aimed and fired his bow at the ghosts. As Romsca’s divine channeling drove the remaining ghosts away, Ilmendwyth held his bow at the ready in case any returned to attack the group.Session 21 - Axe-Breaker Blessings
During the travel, Ilmendwyth was exhausted after the long night and aging effects. Captain Ruslan thanked Ilmendwyth for his efforts during the previous battle, and he asked after Demitri and Arwin, who had visibly aged. After Romsca noticed sounds in the grasses, Ilmendwyth scouted with Arwin and Romulus to find a Dire Pangolin. Ilmendwyth could tell this nocturnal creature was outside of its normal territory and seemed agitated. Ilmendwyth cautioned it would be hard to take down with just the three of them, and they returned to the caravan. Romulus crafted earthen mounds for Ilmendwyth and the other archers to perch on as the caravan continued on, but the pangolin moved away into the grasses. During the conversation with Lieutenant Vramas, he offered to use curative magic on some of the party. Ilmendwyth and Arwin agreed that Demitri should receive the spell. After Demitri was cured, he was filled with residual divine energy and was able to remove the aging effect on Ilmendwyth as well. As they camped in Axe-Breaker Thicket, Ilmendwyth scavenged for some of the axe-breaker tree wood to use for arrows.Session 22 - Raised Voices
During the travel on 9 and 10 Adroth, Ilmendwyth joined Chaka as he foraged for dye. Ilmendwyth said the environment in Tarteria was much different than what he was used to in his home. He had hoped Axe-Breaker Thicket would provide a taste of home, but it was a small forest. Ilmendwyth asked if Chaka had seen the World Tree before. He asked for a small painting of the World Tree to help remind him of what he was missing from home. Chaka said he would be honored to do so. On 10 Adroth, they discussed the Eight-Pronged Residuum Ring. As the ensuing argument grew, Ilmendwyth heard the approaching sound of moving earth and felt the ground begin to tremble.Session 23 - Acid and Fire
The argument over the green ring was interrupted by tunneling ankhegs that attacked the group. Ilmendwyth could feel distinct movements coming to them. After Chaka inspired him with his art, he called out the direction to the party as he climbed onto a wagon seat off the ground. Ilmendwyth remained in his elevated position and rained arrows onto the ankheg that grappled Mortimr, then the ankheg youths. When Romsca went unconscious, Ilmendwyth aided in her rescue by focusing his fire on the alpha ankheg.Session 24 - A Dream of Iron
As the Warden Rangers worked, Ilmendwyth assisted Romulus as he gathered materials from the ankhegs. Ranger General Labb approached Ilmendwyth and asked if he knew how to use his bow well. He said to both Arwin and Ilmendwyth, “The Rangers could always use a good archer, especially one that can hold their own against these things.” Labb said to seek him if they were interested in additional work. Ilmendwyth took a night watch with Arwin. During the night, they noticed Chaka having a nightmare and Ilmendwyth tried to wake him, gently at first, then by striking his helmet.Session 25 - Rose Glasses, Clay Compass
During the discussion about Mortimr’s entity, Ilmendwyth asked how often he communicated with it. To Ilmendwyth, the way Mortimr described the relationship with the entity was similar to warlocks and their patrons. The group prepared for Mortimr to see the ring, and Ilmendwyth kept at a distance. The next day, at the Cereus Compass, Ilmendwyth was the first to hear the words of the ex-soldier preaching to the gathered crowd. Just after midday, Ilmendwyth entered New Keeleon through Argil’s Gate along with the aid caravan.Session 26 - Names, New and Old
While the rest of the party traveled with the caravan, Ilmendwyth used the Earring of Message to check in with Mortimr at the Far Bar Inn. They reached the Breakwater Keep and entered to speak with Nalt Oknar Rulla, Watchguard Stuzrog, Godsguard Shumedzar, and Lord Lortuk. After, they were directed to wait nearby for the arranged payment, which was brought and distributed shortly. After, everyone regrouped at the inn. As Arwin brought Mortimr and Romulus up to speed about the events at Breakwater Keep, Ilmendwyth gave them their caravan payments. Arwin asked what the party’s plan in the city was. They started talking about tasks they should accomplish. Ilmendwyth wanted to bring the ring to Argilla, son of Kla. Romsca said she was not useful to them and was a hinderance. Ilmendwyth replied, “If somebody’s going to die, if not you, who?” He continued, “Regardless of how useful you feel, if this is something that you feel you should help with, then you should help.” After the discussion, Mortimr initiated a Gnomish Gem Binding ritual. Ilmendwyth participated, using the arrowhead he wore around his neck to draw blood. The group went to Victory Market to purchase supplies. Before leaving, Ilmendwyth covered the box holding the Residuum Ring with pillows, to minor effect. At the market, Ilmendwyth purchased six standard healing potions at Gralphank's Ten-Foot Pole Emporium and distributed them among the group. He also bought specialty woodworking tools to work with axe-breaker wood. That evening, they visited the Equus Orphanage and met Demitri’s mother. After they finished speaking with Zofi, they headed back to the Far Bar Inn.Session 27 - River and Sky
At the Far Bar Inn, they discussed their plan. In the morning of 13 Adroth, Gertrude and Ilmendwyth stayed behind with the Eight-Pronged Residuum Ring and its new box.Session 28 - An Interrupted Meal
While waiting, Ilmendwyth’s Sending Stone activated. A tired message came through: “No birds at the feeder, no errands today. A raven nearby with an egg for you. Got a bird’s eye view, coming in for a landing soon, I hope.” Ilmendwyth replied, “I saw a bird at my feeder today. And I’ll be running an errand.” They regrouped at the Far Bar Inn and shared what they’d learned. After, the group met Captain Ruslan for a Santeemite-themed lunch downstairs. When city guards came to arrest Ruslan, Ilmendwyth and the others followed and spoke with the watch commander. After informing Rulla about the arrest, Ilmendwyth asked, “Is this how justice is done in New Keeleon?” They accompanied her down to the holding cells. Ilmendwyth made a show of looking about the area for the guards, and as he passed by Cole’s cell, he successfully slipped a lockpick to the orc.Session 29 - A Lord’s Investigation
In the holding cells, Shumedzar politely asked Ilmendwyth to step aside so he may speak with the prisoner Cole. The party regrouped at Victory Market. Ilmendwyth helped look for the door from Lortuk’s message. He found a brick archway with a broken door laying on the street and called everyone to him. It seemed to be correct, so he paid a nearby vagrant to leave the area. They entered and spoke with Lortuk and Ranger General Labb. They discussed Lortuk’s investigation into Red Lake and the Prophets of Regression. Ilmendwyth asked why Godsguard Shumedzar was uncomfortable around him. Lortuk replied that Shumedzar couldn’t hold a secret to save his life. After the conversation, the group left back into the alleys of Victory Market.Session 30 - On the Riverbank
The party regrouped in the alleys and shared what they’d learned. Before leaving the Victory Market, the group spoke to merchants in the area about the missing coinguard. In the late evening, they returned to Far Bar Inn, ate, and rested. Ilmendwyth and Gertrude took last watch. In the morning of 14 Adroth, Romsca presented a platinum ring to Ilmendwyth, which was engraved with the design of a leaf of the World Tree and inlaid with flecks of gemstone. Taking the roadway to the Embankment district, they reached the Augurs. At Esturk’s shard, Ilmendwyth and Gertrude found a small clay figurine left as an offering. They brought it to the attention of the rest of the party. Chaka saw Nedurr, the Mud Mage, on the riverbank nearby. He asked Ilmendwyth what he could see of the scene. They party approached and questioned Nedurr. At his raised voice, they were ambushed by a pack of mudmutts. Ilmendwyth was stunned by a sonic croak. By the time he recovered, Ruslan was slain in the water. Ilmendwyth and Chaka pulled him to shore, where Mortimr revived him. Nearby, Argilla called to the group, “Quickly! Away from the water, this way, this way!” Gathering the wounded, the group rushed northwards towards the Watermill Gallery.Session 31 - These Old Artists
Many of the group were still soaked and dirty from the battle. Ilmendwyth gave Romsca a kerchief, which she wiped twice before holding it out to return. Argilla formally introduced himself and invited them to his home in the Highland Hills to meet his patron, Al'phonas Muchaelas. They spoke at length about many topics. Argilla offered to examine the residuum ring, if it could help. Ilmendwyth called on Romsca to bring it out. Al’phonas presented a plan to create a decoy Unsigned Painting of the Great Beasts to learn where his real painting may be and if the Tarterian Traders were involved. They agreed, and the party prepared to help Chaka as best they could.Session 32 - To Paint a Phoenix
On 14 Adroth 5A 352, Ilmendwyth spread thieves cant messaging to spread the word about Chaka’s faux art piece. In the Mud Ward, he noticed he was being followed. Ilmendwyth confronted the figure in an alley. It was Rudok, who had been sent by the “Birdkeeper” to give him a satchel of dried and shredded panacea leaf. The freshness of the leaf surprised Ilmendwyth, but he didn’t speak on it. Rudok had a wanted poster from the Commandment of Sky Guildhall for Arwin. Ilmendwyth told him the guildhall was behind events he was looking into, calling them “a bunch of jackasses.” He told Rudok to not pursue Arwin. Rudok also had a wanted poster for Mortimr, and Ilmendwyth said to avoid that one, too. Rudok then said he’d just be heading back to Kievs. Before leaving, he helped Ilmendwyth to spread more thieves cant messaging around town. That evening, Romsca asked the group to return her notebooks to Gohled Teente if she were to die. Ilmendwyth asked how her people would react to an outsider. He felt he may not be allowed to do so, but he and Gertrude said they would do so, if needed. On 15 Adroth 5A 352, as Chaka grew frustrated with the painting, Ilmendwyth pointed out flaws he noticed in the work.Session 33 - History and Heroes
As they discussed the plan, Romsca said Ilmendwyth was the swiftest and stealthiest and suggested he remain outside for his skill in spotting people. Ilmendwyth said he and Arwin had done something similar at the Glistening Hog Tavern. Al’phonas said weapons and armor weren’t allowed in the gallery. Demitri asked who could function well without weapons and armor. Ilmendwyth said he could conceal a weapon, if needed. Al’phonas made arrangements with Leka Fabrics. There, Ilmendwyth didn’t get any clothing, as he was dissatisfied with the cloth. At the gallery opening, Romulus cast a water-breathing spell on himself, Arwin, and Ilmendwyth, and they entered the Rexun River. They approached the gallery from the water, and Arwin and Ilmendwyth positioned beneath the back patio.Session 34 - Watermill Melee
Ilmendwyth saw a fanatic rushing the guards, and he left the water and climbed onto the wooden walkway. He and Arwin shot the fanatic, alerted the guards, and Ilmendwyth rushed inside. Ilmendwyth saw Al’phonas fall and rushed to him in the smoke. Ilmendwyth quickly dragged him towards Gertrude’s light as she attacked and killed cultists across the gallery. He called out, “Gertrude! Save him.” She checked Al’phonas, but he passed out from the effect. Ilmendwyth ensured Al’phonas would live and dragged him towards the exit, taking the time to dust him off. Outside, a guard took Al’phonas from Ilmendwyth and pulled him away from the building. Ilmendwyth rapidly ran after Shur as he fled. He quickly regrouped with Romsca’s pursuit.Session 35 - On the Scent
Ilmendwyth and the others kept their distance as they pursued Shur. At the gate to the Catlinites, Arwin and Ilmendwyth noticed few civilians in the area. They didn’t see any more cultists but were concerned there were no guards on patrol. The party regrouped and headed to a warehouse near the Commandment of Sky Guildhall. Several hidden cultists were posted around. Arwin, Ilmendwyth, Demitri, and Mortimr took aim with ranged weapons, timed their shots, and killed the sentries with a volley. Inside, Arwin and Ilmendwyth searched for hidden passages. Romsca found one, and Ilmendwyth tried pressing it and learned it needed to be affected by something. Opening it, it revealed a tunnel to the main guildhall. Arwin found an accessway to a large metal door bearing an elemental plane sigil. Using the Earring of Message, he called for Ilmendwyth to join him. After seeing the door, Ilmendwyth informed Demitri the group would need to stealthily cross. Ilmendwyth followed the path to the other side of the guildhall and shattered a glass, which gave Romsca and Gertrude the chance to cross the hallway unnoticed. They opened the door and headed down a set of stairs. Ilmendwyth avoided falling into a trap. Beneath the guildhall, the group found the Chamber of Titles. Ilmendwyth recognized the language on the walls as Primordial, and he read the names to the group. They overheard conversation between Talmid and Shur, but they triggered another trap. Two large elementals apparated in front of them and attacked.Session 36 - The Chamber of Titles
Arwin called out to Ilmendwyth, “Is there a word or a phrase we can use to deactivate this?” Ilmendwyth repeatedly shot the fire elemental with precision, incinerating his arrows. The fire elemental attacked Ilmendwyth and Romulus with sweeping fire. Ilmendwyth used Absorb Elements to resist, but he was set ablaze. He disengaged from the fire elementals and attacked the air elemental with his short sword. After Talmid was subdued and captured, Ilmendwyth ran to the red orb. He aimed and fired an arrow deep into it. As Gertrude and Demitri attacked as well, the red orb went dull and fell to pieces. As they explored the rooms nearby, they saw figures in cages. Romulus, Gertrude, and Ilmendwyth entered and found Coinguard Holarust and Watchguard Shumedzar. Ilmendwyth picked the locks of the cages so they could be healed.Session 37 - Petals, Paintings, Pasts
After Talmid was killed after the interrogation, the group split to investigate the other rooms. Ilmendwyth and Romulus checked the large research room where Chaka was already exploring. The sigil in the research room activated, and the group gathered at the sound of voices. They had a tense conversation with Maalik and Azariel. The group was tired and it was past midnight, but they chose to stay and continue looking through the rooms. Ilmendwyth looked over the satchel Demitri found. He recognized it as the same type as the one Rudok had given him earlier. Inside was more, fresh Panacea leaf. Chaka found two hidden elvish letters in the Great Leviathan painting. He transcribed them and showed Ilmendwyth, but neither of them could find any meaning without more context. The group settled down in the rooms to rest, thinking over the events of the day and the genasi they were involved with.Session 38 - The Prophets of Regression
In the morning, Ilmendwyth sent a coded message through his Sending Stone. He said the Prophets of Regression were hunting Great Beasts to recreate the Severance. He also warned their “raven might be a vulture”. Over the next days, they dug into the research, journals, and materials they found. They discovered information about the Prophets of Regression and the genasi’s actions. At the end of studying all this information, they theorized what this all meant. In the late afternoon of 18 Adroth, Rulla sent Lord Lortuk to gather the Lightbringers. On the way, Chaka split Al’phonas’s gold with the party. The group discussed what next move would be best. Ilmendwyth agreed accompany Gertrude to Red Lake was important. They chose Red Lake as priority, then they would cycle back to the ankheg nest. At the Breakwater Keep they were brought before Nalt Oknar Rulla. As reward for their actions, the Lightbringers were given the Rill Priory and invited as guests of honor to the Champion’s Conquest festivities.Character Information
