The Ever Victorious Army
The Joshogun, also known as the "Ever Victorious Army", is the feared military arm of the The Dread Empire Empire. While it has lost battles, it is by description ever adapting and switches strategies and methods so that the next time it confronts the enemy, they'll be sure to win.
Structure
At the head of the Ever Victorious Army is the Shogun, which acts as the high general for all of the imperial armies, and in terms of social heirarchy, is just below the Eunuch Council.
Below the Shogun are the Daimyo, which are the warlords who lead the individual armies. Each army can have a few as 10,000 soldiers, to as many as 100,000.
Below the Daimyo are the Taiso, who lead individual legions within each army. Each legion can be between 1,000-5,000 soldiers.
Below the Taiso is the Chui, Which lead the individual companies, 100-500 men each.
Below the Chui is the Ganso, which lead squads of around 10-12 men each.
Next is the Gocho, they led fireteams of 4 men each.
the lowest rank is the Hetso, the average soldier in the Joshogun.
Culture
The culture of the Josougun is heavily influenced by Nyppon culture. When the Shin first began their conquest of Nyppon, the native inhabitance, while impossibly outnumbered, put up an valiant resistance, sacrificing their own lives to cause massive damage to the Shin. By the time the island was conquered, the Nypponese had managed to kill five Shin soldiers for every one of theirs. In honor of their admirable effort, the Nypponese nobility were given elevated status and were considered equal to Shin Nobility. As well, the Shin Army adopted many Nyppon military customs, to the point where centuries later, the military uses entirely Nypponese terms.
Military
A typical Joshogun soldier wears a uniform of green and gold painted armour that was generally constructed from many small steel and/or leather, scales, and/or plates, connected to each other by rivets and macramé cords made from leather and/or braided silk, and/or chain armour. Silk cords are made in specific patterns and colors of silk thread. Many of these cords are constructed of well over 100 strands of silk. Making these special silk cords can take many months of steady work, just to complete enough for one suit of armour. These armour plates are usually attached to a cloth or leather backing. Shin armour is designed to be as lightweight as possible as the average soldier has many tasks including riding a horse and archery in addition to swordsmanship. The armour is usually brightly lacquered to protect against the harsh Alantrian climate. Chain armour is also used to construct individual armour pieces and full suits of chain armour are even used.
The average infantryman is called a Futsū-ka, and are charged to be jack of all trade. When needed they can mount a horse and act as cavalry, or pick up a bow and act as a skirmisher.
Ote's are the beast masters of the Joshogun, and are charged with the caretaking and handling of the various beasts of war within the army, whether they run, swim, or fly. Chongwu are considered animals so Ote's are their caretakers as well.
Kugun is the term used for the various flying companies in the Joshogun.
The Kuge-Ti are an elite subgroup of the Kugun. They ride double with a regular Kugun unit and are dropped off to do massive damage behind enemy lines. They never return from battle due to the nature of their specialized magical rings.
Kaigun is the term for the Joshogun Navy. It is the branch of the Ever Victorious Army that sees the most action due to the nature of the Dread Empires War against the Saamraaj of Indus.
