Agent Abel
Ms Amelia Abel (a.k.a. Agent Abel)
As his superhero activities started bleeding into his day job, Alec Upton's partner and best friend in the police force Amelia Abel started to become suspicious. Staunchly anti-superhero in her views, but concerned for her friend, she was quickly able to work out what Alec had been up to and confronted him over it. Soon joining in with the search for Transonic and the hunt for the illusive Rumour, Amelia eventually wound up in an accident that seriously maimed her, leaving her career in law enforcement effectively halted until an individual from Schurk Industries came to visit and showed her another way of doing things.
Physical Description
General Physical Condition
Amelia has an athletic build and takes good care of herself. Due to her accident, she had to undergo the amputations of her left leg below the knee, right up to her hip, and her left hand, though she makes up for these as best she can with cybernetic prostheses and an electric wheelchair. She also suffered burns over 70% of her body that has resulted in various amounts of scarring across her skin.
Specialized Equipment
In order to continue and enhance her work in the field, Amelia makes use of a specialised cybernetic exoskeleton designed by Schurk Industries. Since the organisation's takeover and folding into The Century Group, the armour has been maintained and periodically upgraded by Dr Robert Mawnay and his team, allowing her to operate as a specialist agent in the field. The armour features a large number of often modular abilities:
- In its base form, the armour is able to switch quickly between an electric wheelchair mode and the powered exoskeleton configuration Amelia uses in combat. The suit increases Amelia's strength and speed considerably, as well as protecting her from attacks up to small arms fire.
- A pair of lenses often stylised to sunglasses can feed Amelia information about her environment and even give her night and infra-red vision.
- The hands of the armour house a taser that can render enemies unconscious in a few moments.
- The calves of the armour feature small thruster jets that Amelia can use for enhanced manoeuvrability and speed.
- In a pinch, Amelia's armour can produce a hard light blade for her to defend herself in melee combat, but it's extremely draining on the suit's charge, so she often prefers to avoid it.
- The armour can carry up to six crowd-control canisters that can be picked up in any arrangement Amelia thinks will be useful, including tear gas, smoke screen, knockout gas, sonic grenades and flashbangs.
- The thigh of the armour also houses a polymer printer that can be used to create ammunition for her pistol, a number of other pre-programmed pieces of equipment or items on demand that she can either scan or accurately model. This printer uses a supply of polymer that needs to be topped up when used, but can also cannibalise parts of the armour itself as necessary, though this leaves Amelia vulnerable.
Mental characteristics
Personal history
Gifted with an almost prodigious tactical mind, Amelia from a young age excelled at strategy and logic puzzles, becoming a regional chess champion at age eleven before refocusing on her studies. Always enamoured by the rule of law, she quickly decided to go into a career in law enforcement and soon found herself embarking on a degree in forensic science followed by a swift induction into the Bathala City Police Department and assigned her first partner; a young criminology graduate named Alec Upton.
The two quickly became firm friends, working through dozens of cases together and often making time to hang out after work and at weekends, but Amelia could see him getting frustrated by the bureaucratic hoops they had to jump through in order to help people. The two continue to be close friends, but by around the two year mark, the strange behaviour he had started to exhibit had made Amelia suspicious.
During a particularly erratic time for her partner, Amelia decides to follow him after work and find out what's going on. She's soon embroiled into a superhero mystery, on the hunt for Rumour and his kidnapped victims but, after a short confrontation during which she's able to unmask him before he escapes to his vehicle, Amelia's car is run off the road and she's rushed into hospital having sustained significant injuries.
Amelia loses her left leg below the knee, right up to her hip, and her left hand in the crash, and suffers burns over seventy percent of her body. She's in and out of surgery for several days and soon awakens to find the villain looming over her, preparing to inject an air bubble into her IV and kill her. She's able to disconnect the tube and listen in to the villain's ramblings before he leaves and, using this, is able to identify him and lead the others to his home.
Between her police training and cybernetic prostheses, Amelia Abel is one of The Century Group's most effective investigators and team leaders. Often reluctant to call in extra superhero reinforcement due to her own views, she's well-known as a by-the-book professional with a hard head but the skills to back up her views.
