Following an uncomfortable conversation with Lucy in the Sky and the other Drug Lords, Rue decides to speak with her Vigil sponsor and friend, Rachel about the situation.
Rue: [incoming call to Rachel] Rachel: [Rachel picks up.] Oh hey, Rue. How's it going? Rue: Uh, hi. It’s, well… I’m sure you know about the recent work we did at City Hall. Rachel: Of course! It was all over the news! You guys did great! Rue: Yeah, I’m not sure that we did. The news conveniently left some bits out. Did you read any of the official reports? Rachel: I haven't really had a chance, I'm afraid. It's been a pretty hectic week. I never realised how difficult baby-proofing an apartment would be! What happened? Rue: They were looking for evidence of the experiments that they were put through, experiments that should have never been done in the first place! I don’t suppose Blue ever told you about any of those? Rachel: Err... No. Is there some reason he might know about them? Rue: Because his sister’s name was mentioned. I need to know what happened to them Rachel: Indigo? I'm not sure what you've heard, but Indigo's a good person. I've met her a few times. She's dedicated her life to helping people. Did the experiment happen at Blackmoore? Rue: Does it matter where they happened? If she was involved, she can tell us more about what happened. If they were used, they deserve justice. Rachel: I completely agree with you. Those guys were from the Railyard, I should've been looking out for them. I can get in touch with Indigo if you want, set up a meeting? She might be able to shine some light on what happened. Rue: I’d appreciate that… It’s just… You should’ve seen them. The way they went about it might have been wrong, but… well, I get it. Rachel: We'll get to the bottom of this, Rue. I promise you that. Rue: Now what was that about baby proofing? Rachel: Oh, you have no idea how many tables and cabinets have pointed corners until you're expected to cover them up. It's ridiculous! Rue: I didn’t know that was a thing… Babies are so fragile Rachel: Well, usually. Yeah. But with my baby? You never know... Little shit may end up throwing cars as well as tantrums... Rue: That reminds me - when did you realise you were stronger than… well, most people? Rachel: Well, I was always a little tougher than most. But I thought that was just growing up with a shitty household and the less said about that the better. But I didn't really know it until a little before I ran away from home. Puberty had hit me like a truck and I realised I could do roughly the same, so I didn't need to put up with that shit anymore. Why do you ask? Rue: The prospect of a car throwing baby just made me wonder - if you need someone strong enough to babysit them, I suppose I could charge a premium fee… Rachel: Her. But shh, I haven't told anyone yet. Hehe, as long as you promise to keep the fireballs out of my flat. Rue: Oh! No fireballs, I can do that. Rachel: That will definitely be top of the babysitter's checklist, right next to "Stay out of the Liquor cabinet" Rue: I don’t really like to drink anyway. I’ll leave you to your baby proofing and will wait for you to arrange a meeting. Rachel: Alright, Sweetheart. Stay safe out there. Rue: -mumbles- I don’t think I’ll ever get used to the whole sweetheart thing… You too. Good luck? Rachel: We'll get you there -chuckles- I'll be in touch. [SEVERAL HOURS LATER] Rachel: [Incoming call to Rue] Rue: ''Hello?'' Rachel: "Hey Rue, it's Rachel. I've managed to get an appointment with Indigo Friday morning. You free?" Rue: ''Hi Rachel, yes, I'm free. What time and where?'' Rachel: "You'll have to go to Blackmoore at ten AM. It's the only time she had available." Rue audibly grimaces at the thought of meeting her at the hospital, but they decide to take what they can get. Rue: ''Okay, thanks, Rachel. I appreciate it.'' Rachel: "Listen, Rue. You gonna be okay? Do you want me to meet you there? We can go together?" Rue: ''I'd be lying if I said I was thrilled... I'll be okay, Harmony may be tagging along so I won't be on my own.'' Rachel: "Alright. Just stay safe out there. You know where I'll be if you need some backup." Rue: “Thank you...” Rue ends the call and takes a deep breath, their hands betraying the faintest of tremors, “Okay, let’s do this…” They mutter to themself
