Toxic Plains
Geography
The toxic plains, also known as the toxic earth or trash fields, covers a large area of the world. Once fertile lands have been turned to wastelands and trees poisoned to blackened stumps. Now, fused plastic and metal covers most of the ground in a thick layer which covers rivers and lakes and a long way into the ocean.Weather
Red clouds cover the sky, completly blocking out the sunlight. The intense cloud cover keeps temperatures moderate and the light low throughout the year so there are no notable seasonable changes. Some cultures (including the Dome Community, no longer have a concept of night and day. The area is susceptible to periods of low cloud, also known as smog, which can last for days and sometimes weeks at a time. It is also prone to acid rainfall. The acid is toxic to organic material and corrosive for metals.
Flora & Fauna
Due to the acid rain, no vegitation, animals or people can survive for long periods of time without the assistance of advanced technology.History
This area once had fertile lands with forests, beaches and grand civilisations. Extreme pollution and climate disasters poisoned plant-life. Plastic waste spread for miles into the ocean in a thick layer, drowning coastal towns in plastic. Most tried to escape. The Founders build a domed city to shelter away from the outside world. Others fled in the hopes of reaching somewhere untouched by the storm and pollution. Some stayed behind with the intention of reviving the Ancient City and were caught there during the Great Storm. There are unconfirmed reports that some people might still live there. These reports are largely dismissed as myth.Settlements
The Dome is, by far, the largest settlement in the area. The light from the city can be seen for many miles away. It is home to the Dome Community who thrive by using advanced technologies to keep them sealed in a protective dome, free from interactions with nature. It is home to a large population of humans and some rodents. The MicroDome is a smaller settlement near to the Dome which is a training hub used by the Explorers' Guild and Archaeologists' Guilds of the Dome Community. The remains of the Ancient City still stand, though they are slowly decaying into ruins. Centuries of acid rainfall has corroded the skyscrapers and many have collapsed.
