Jean had a breif romance with Warren Worthington III during her teen years. She was too shy to tell Scott Summers that she liked him and Warren was very forward. Warren's attention turned elsewhere and Jean got up the courage to tell Scott. Jean and Scott fell in love in their teen years. Just before her 21st birthday, Wanda Maximoff discovered Charles's shields and freaked out. She forced Charles to tell Jean the truth.

Jean was born with incredible ability for telepathy. Through the Phoenix, she also has immense, molecular telekinesis. This decreases when the Phoenix is separated from Jean, though she never looses it completely.

Personal history
Born to John and Elaine Grey, Jean developed immense psychic powers very young. Agatha Harkness noticed during an accusation of child abuse and recommended her friend Charles Xavier . Charles helped Jean control her powers but discovered that another entity had taken up residence in Jean, the great Phoenix. Scared of what he felt, Charles placed a series of psychic barriers in Jean's mind to protect her from the entity and keep the entity contained. Jean was present when Charles rescued Scott Summers from the streets after he ran from the abusive orphanage to be found in Boston.

When Jean was a child, she witness her friend dying from a car accident. Her telepathic abilities awoke then and she felt death. Her mind couldn't handle it and she reached out telepathically, catching the attention of Pheonix force. Phoenix was curious about the passion this child felt and bonded with her to experience that which is being Human.
