September 2024 - Mysterious educational trip

If you want to measure the confines of your home, travel. If you want to measure the limitations of your time, study history.
Kurt Tucholsky - German writer

My review of the month

In September it was time to discover some myths, plan the start of a longer journey and incorporate a little education into our world building. I found that September went by very quickly and I actually didn't plan on writing for all three challenges. Only the educational challenge piqued my interest, as in the concept of the novel one of the characters begins her journey from there. So you should at least have some kind of plan for what's going on there. I am very satisfied with my article about the "Flames of Wisdom" because I was able to supplement the article with my own drawings. But the article is far from complete and I still have a few things to add. At the same time, I renovated the article about the building that was written during Worldember 2022. A revision with further additions is definitely still pending.   For Elspeth's Mystember, I added another article for Brictaelgis and thought about how the goblins of my world saw the light. Here too I have used my own art and tried to let the content of the text flow around the statue.   Last but not least, for Tyrdal's first prompt for "The longest Journey" I wrote a small overview of Syrta Khim, a famous explorer feyelf in the world of Elaqitan. In the next calls we will accompany her to further stops on her three voyages of discovery. This is the first time I've tried to combine lyrics with the song "Compas" by Two Steps from Hell. I would be very happy if you gave me feedback on how the interaction between music and reading worked for you. I have integrated a map into the article that will later display the trips as small pins.

My favorite articles of the community

The Force is strong within him, but talent without training is nothing. Luke Skywalker in The Mandalorian - Season 2 Episode 8

Arcanum Dona Viperia
Organization | Oct 31, 2024

The Arcanum Dona Viperia is Morvathia's oldest and most prestigious academy of witchcraft, renowned for its rigorous curriculum and mastery of dark magic. It serves as a gateway for aspiring witches to enter the realm’s elite magical institutions.

Nomen est omen, as the saying goes, as in this great article from Hatwolf snakes are ubiquitous. There are obvious clues but also many small hidden ones in the text. In addition, everything is rounded off with wonderful art. My personal highlight!
Even though Chrispy_0's article is unfortunately not included in the competition, you shouldn't miss this great masterpiece because of the many details. There is a lot to discover and I wasn't bored for a single moment. The teachers and students can certainly tell many interesting stories.

Cats? Yes! \o/ - Haly the Moonlight Bard wrote a lovely little article here. I think it is particularly great that the hero figures have been integrated into the layout so lovingly that it doesn't seem distracting. And aren't they cute? Hopefully in my next life I'll be reincarnated as a cat and then we'll see each other at this school!
Dahal Al'Ravan - The house of trade
Organization | Oct 16, 2024
Are you looking for the unusual? Then you are right here. Learn how to trade properly in the Orient, which will certainly be a great experience with the teachers Tyrdal has described in this wonderful article. Or have you ever talked to a camel? - No, don't say it! We're talking about a real, real camel here.

I never shout "Ho-ho-ho", that's a myth. Fake news!* Santa Claus in The Christmas Chronicles

In this beautiful article from Make Lore not War you will be transported to a wondrous mystical oasis that is not shown to everyone. I like that it tried to raise a lot of questions but were never really answered due to the shrouded nature of the location, which adds even more mystique to the place.

Please read this article from Solstice about a mystical rock, even though it may seem rather inconspicuous. There's some great world building hidden here. I like how the local residents have put forward many different theories to explain the phenomenon surrounding the rock and how they have integrated the stone into their everyday lives.
Shadebound Apparition
Physical / Metaphysical Law | Oct 2, 2024

In the shadows, your true strength stands guard.

In this enchanting myth of Tillerz, each Alanian has an individual shadow beast that cannot be seen by everyone. The different types of shadow animals and how they are connected to the wearer are explained with ease. If you could choose one shadow animal, what would it be?

It's a dangerous thing to walk out your door. You step onto the street, and
If you don't take care of your feet, there's no way of knowing where they'll take you.* Bilbo Baggins in The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring

Journey of an Armaneran, Part I
Prose | Sep 26, 2024

The memoirs of Val Mortan as he travels through the world in search of a cure for the Valnax Immateriy.

In this perhaps more classic hero's journey from SoleilArya we will accompany the protagonist on his search for a cure for a friend's daughter. I'm very excited to see whether he succeeds and whether the author tells us more about the adventurer.
In keeping with fall, CrazyEddie takes us on a journey to explore dwarf mushrooms. I already love the protagonist and I am sure that this journey will take place with a lot of heart, wit and spirit. At least this great article about a dwarven formulist who doesn't seem to mince his words gets us in the mood for it.

I was very surprised that Make Lore not War takes a completely different path in its journey, in contrast to the mystically imaginative article of the Mystember Challenge. This shows wonderfully that even in magical worlds it is not always all sunshine and roses. The author has used very figurative language that will immediately make you feel like you are sitting in Rohan's cell waiting for the journey to begin. I'm very excited to see what happens to the protagonist and hope that we'll learn a little more about his background.

Oh yes, I completely agree and it's great that Stormbrill's and Hatwolf's articles made it into the top 10 for the Premier League Challengers. Really well deserved.

Thank you for the double shoutout of article and challenge! I'm glad you liked the house of trade and once I'm allowed to I will add even more content to it (maybe even something more about our talking camel?). I really love how you arrange these newsletters and I'm looking forward to the next one already.

Sit down, my friend, and let me tell you of Aran'sha . A world where the sands shift and the stars sing, where the wind carries secrets and the twin moons keep silent vigil over it all.
