Muskox Wool
North-Jolþic: Tóþjalt /thoːθjaːlth/
South-Jolþic: Dóþjúlt /toːθjuːlth/
Ælic: Deð /tɛːð/
The inner wool of muskoxen is by far the warmest, softest one found in Borgalor, obtained by brushing domesticated muskoxen with long-toothed combs or collecting it as it falls off wild ones during springtime, though the latter method gives lower-quality material. It's been used by the Elves of Þjaris in northwestern Jælondis to make winter clothing for millennia, and during the centuries of isolation from the rest of the world was the only kind of textile allowed there aside from native plant fibres.
When this period came to an end during and especially after the Fell Wars, muskox wool gradually became available elsewhere, especially in the Southlands where the long, austral winters can be as harsh as those in Þjaris, particularly further inland.
Due to its quality, the fact each muskox only produces a small amount during a relatively short period each year and amount of work that goes into turning it into a clothing, the material is expensive to say the least, much more so than any other kind of wool, which means that owning so much as a hat made from muskox wool is quite a status symbol in many countries. The country of Ælea exports most of the textiles and garments made from the wool.
Unfortunately, the high demand has also lead to a decline in the wild muskox population in areas outside of þjaric elven control, as it's not uncommon for the hunters looking to make fortune there to kill the animals for their wool.
