Ælic

Ælic is one of the main languages spoken by the Þjaric Elves in northeastern Jælondis, spoken primarily by the Æleans in the country of Ælea to the north, as well as small communities in New Þamta in the Southlands. A linguistic isolate, it forms a sprachbund along with Jolþic and æjalic spoken to the south and southwest, respectively, due to centuries of contact with the latter, meaning that it shares a number of words and linguistic features with the them.
This includes the senary (base six) numeral system now common throughout Þjaris, with only remote communities of muskoxherds on Þjan Tundra still using the ancient nonary (base nine) numerals for counting their livestock and certain goods. Many æleans also use both the day- and month-names derived from the common þjaric calendar along with the native one, the latter which is used for observing various local festivals and ceremonies throughout the year.
Ælic belongs to a language family that once was widespread throughout the þjaric hinterlands and the western tundra to the north, along with the now extinct jegðic spoken around the coast and Þlónó Lake, the latter which is distantly related to Þiðic, before the ancestors of Æjalans and Jolþi migrated to the region and supplanted jegðan and southern ælean cultures.

Writing System

The language is written using an alphabet derived from the one used by the jolþi, with a few added letters to represent sounds which jolþic lacks. Ælic literature, though not as extensive as that of neighbouring countries, has become better known outside Þjaris due to the influx of tourists in recent years.
