Western Binorðheim

The western region of Binorðheim, extending across the mainland from the city of Ormgade to the northern western side of the Greyforge Mountains. Clans Rev and Geit call this region home. While the southern lands where Clan Rev has settled are fertile and mildly temperate in the summer, the north is anything but, causing Clan Geit to be the smallest clan by way of lands settled, preferring to remain in close settlements around rivers, bodies of water and the eastern mountains.

Geography

The landscape of western Binorðheim varies greatly from the temperate grasslands, rolling hills, deep gorges, and forests of the south to the frigid tundra of the north. The southern lands are situated between the ocean and the Serpent's Sea that takes up much of the middle of Binordheim, and is made up primarily of temperate grasslands and forests with several fjords and inlets cutting into the landscape along the coast on either side. A mountain range runs along the western side of the region and in the foothills and plains that stretch out from it, hot springs and geysers are numerous. All throughout the southern half of this region rivers are abundant, keeping the soil fertile for Reven farming.
Further to the north the forests become more plentiful, with one large forest stretching up and into the tundra in the north before it disperses into low shrublands.
The northmost region of the west is an enormous expanse of tundra that spreads up and into the jagged arctic coastline. The cold waters of the ocean border this area on the west and north and bring with it frigid winds to the unforgiving landscape. Those that live here congregate around the rivers that run from lakes and the mountains to the east and empty into the west and northern coasts. Some trees still grow around the mountains, but much of the rest of the land is barren of trees aside from a few places such as the Boneyard.

Climate

The climate of the south is vastly more forgiving than that of the north. The south boasts warm summers with its cold winters with a decent amount of precipitation throughout the year. Meanwhile, beyond the dense forest that separates the south from the north, the north has only a short chilly summer season with long winters dominating the rest of their year and little in the way of rain or snowfall.

Fauna & Flora

Great beasts lurk in all of Binorðheim, and the west in no exception. In fact, Clan Rev have become known for their skill in hunting the creatures that lurk within the miles of grassland and forests that surround their settlements. While the north may seem far more barren at first glance with its treeless expanse, it has no less variety of life, and those that grow there are all the more hardy.

Natural Resources

With its many forests, the south has no shortage of wood. So much in fact that it has prompted Clan Muninn to make deals with Clan Rev for rights to land along the southern shorelines for access to wood to build their many ships. In addition, the mountains and foothills of the west and to a greater extent those in the northeast have much in the way of iron, silver, copper, and - in the north - coal in addition to other minerals and stones of value. The south also boast many fields kept by the Reven, some beneath large enclosures where they grow fruits and vegetables difficult to grow elsewhere in Binordheim.

History

These lands were settled by the Nordic clans nearly three thousand years ago, and since then Clan Rev and Geit have spread to claim most of them, although Clan Geit have opted to remain primarily along the mountain range in the north all the way down to the inner coastline of the Serpent's Sea with only a few settlements spread as far as the western coast.
