Ana Nomads

“There's more to a person than flesh. Judge others by the sum of their soul and you'll see that beauty is a force of light that radiates from the inside out.”

-Aaron Lauritsen       The Ana people are a nomadic society who travel the deserts of Charybdis by choice and stay in only a handful of cities when required. Each clan holds sway over its people and its leaders have a say in who becomes the Kahn when they are united in matters of life and death. Every Ana is treated as a member of the family within the clan and harm to one is harm to the clan. Outsiders are best to understand this as it can lead to an unwinnable fight.       The people of the desert are born with the raw essence magically imbued within their blood. By some great pact at the beginning of the era, they absorbed the essence from a being they call The Moderator. It has only since then spoken with the Kahn of the clans when in dire need. Much of the lore is conflicting, but one thing is surely true, that the Moderator is real.       Being a nomadic people has not stopped them from establishing towns and cities. Much of them are built as crafting hubs or trading centers. The largest of the cities and the capital is Katiyimo, at its core is a ziggurat built in honor of the Unrelenting Sun. Anyone traveling the desert will have to prepare to follow some of the daily rituals of the Unrelenting one. The grand city that is Katiyimo hosts many tradespeople from across Charybdis and the markets are filled with wondrous objects.       The ruling Ana Nomads are a matriarchy of clan leaders, with a Kahn elected by the clans in times of war or great danger. Each clan leader was chosen by its eldest and wisest. The laws that govern the Ana clans are based on wisdom and not logic, so if you are found before a clan leader for a crime, then best to be respectful and plead your case. Only the clan elders or its leaders can lay the punishment for crimes and only after they have rested for a night after the case was heard.       Of all the nations that the Ana Nomads have dealings with the Council of Wolves have never been anything but deadly. The very nature of living in the desert has marked them for death by the council and night raids have been going on for many years stealing people or killing them on the spot. The Ana wishes to preserve life and has learned to live in harmony with the desert, yet the council will not forgive them for making a pact with the Moderator.
