Derax Pyo'orun

[Derax Pyo'orun is a player character in The Chellokan Eclipse campaign.]   Derax Pyo'orun was born twenty-two years ago to his loving parents, Shul and Dera, in a part of Prakyun populated by forests, hills, streams, and fauna. Not by towers divorced from Prakyun itself, electrified and glowing but cold. Those like Derax and his family, people pushed long ago from their ancestral homes, are seen as backward for their old habits and customs.   In his youth, Derax spent time on his family's lands wandering, exploring, and helping his father maintain the old power stations throughout his community, even though he found it a bit boring. As he grew older he wrestled with classmates, often winning, earning himself a reputation as a tough kid. From time to time, this tough kid ran up against insults about who he is, who his parents are, and who his ancestors were, and that never sat well with him, so he dealt with it.     He never traveled far from where he was growing up and was left wondering about the rest of Prakyun, and perhaps beyond. He heard stories from his elders about people leaving Prakyun and he thought that one day he could do the same. To see something new and so different. After his schooling completed he continued to work, forgoing more formal education, but his desire to travel never left him. At 21 he learned about a group that sought those like him, looking for adventure and willing to fight, SEAR, Special Element for Assault and Reconnaissance. It wasn't long after that he found himself on a transport to boot camp.   There he did well, but some of his class gave him a hard time. He always launched back, with his own insults, sometimes too far and with too much anger. After his basic training he qualified for SEAR and shipped off to try out. The qualification process was hell but he was well weathered already, a bit inoculated from the stress and hardship that the process created given his youth. He moved through advanced training well until the day he didn't. The day when insults from a particular asshole got to be too much and he didn't hold back. He was left with a dishonorable discharge for breaking both arms and the jaw of the motor-mouth.   His dream had ended. It was months since he heard from his parents. Now he would have to return home a failure. As he waited for the transport to take him back he was able to check his SmartComm after many months. He read through the inane messages, deleting, deleting. Then he read something that froze him. His parents were forced to sell their land, their home.   They were now living with his aunt. When he arrived they recounted the entire ordeal. They told him that they were fine, that it wasn't a big deal and would be fine with what they had left but that they also had something for him. A substantial share of the monies. More than he thought it would be. They wanted him to have it so that he could go and live his life. To do what he always wanted to do, explore. But he would have to do more for his parents that did so much for him. He resolved to buy back their land and home to ensure that it would be in his family for generations to come. And where could he do this but Chellok.
