Ioth Mitne

The Blade of Holy Platinum Light

History

Ioth Mitne is a blade that once was the crowning jewel in the reliquary of the Church of the Platinum Dragon, said to be a gift granted directly from their god and forged from his holy platinum scales to serve as their foremost weapon against the forces of darkness and evil. Said to have been a direct conduit for Bahamut's divine power into both they who wielded it and the foes who it struck down, Ioth Mitne was a holy artifact of legendary, even mythical power feared and beloved the world over as the greatest weapon of the Church of the Platinum Dragon.   It long sat in the reliquaries of the church in the absence of a wielder who was worthy and capable of wielding its immense power, and it was not until the famous Saint of Bahamut, Saint Baelarax the Radiant, claimed Ioth Mitne from its reliquary and used it to rally the Church of the Platinum Dragon to his cause during the Age of Barbarity long ago in response to the growing threat of Vecna, The Arch-Lich, who had returned to the world at the beginning of the age but had recently done battle with Hyldrin, The Unraveler during The Advent of The Unraveler which saw gods duel gods for the sake of the destruction or preservation of the entire Material Plane. After his duel with the Goddess of Oblivion and her legions of Abbadon, Vecna, weakened immensely and his newfound divine power sputtering in the aftermath of such a mighty conflict in which he strangely saw fit to defend the Material Plane from oblivion, did Saint Baelarax sent out the call for a mighty crusade, to put an end to The Arch-Lich while he was weakened for the sake of the world.   Despite his heroic call and his beloved status as the greatest and most virtuous of all of the church's saints and warriors, Saint Baelarax was shunned from his own church who had grown to fear Vecna so greatly that they refused to take action against him. So, taking up Ioth Mitne and a small band of heroic and noble adventurers and warriors, Saint Baelarax set out with blade in hand and steel in his heart to slay The Arch-Lich once and for all...and though the battle was unending, the days were dark, and all was grim, Saint Baelarax and his warrior brothers and sisters were said to have carved their way to the tyrant Vecna and, in a moment of mighty triumph, plunged Ioth Mitne into Vecna's twisted, blackened chest...in that moment, Bahamut was able to pour his divine radiance through the blade as a conduit and seal away Vecna's divinity forever...though the strike cost dear Saint Baelarax his life in the process.   Tragically, while the the blow struck by Saint Baelarax was not able to lay The Undying King low, it did successfully seal his divinity and make the Arch-Lich yet mortal once more...in this way, Saint Baelarax(And even his allies, in a smaller way) was canonized as a true martyr of the Platinum Faithful and recognized as the architect of events that would eventually lead to Vecna's downfall and true destruction centuries later. Ioth Mitne is said to remain in the chest of Vecna to this very day, its pure platinum radiance sealing The Undying King's once-mighty divinity and keeping him weak...and it was thanks to this blade, still impaled in his chest and sealing his immense divinity, that he was able later to be finally destroyed and banished from the Material Plane for good in The Age of Heroes much later...though Ioth Mitne vanished alongside him, where it remains vanished and its location unknown to this day.

Powers

Ioth Mitne was said to be a blade so legendarily and uncannily powerful that its mere presence was said to purify both nearby creatures and surrounding environments, expelling corruption, pollution, and taints of all kinds as a passive effect...and with a simple touch of its blade, no creature or object was said to be able to retain an ounce of evil or impurity within it. It could cleanse an ocean of filth, convert the most sadistic tyrant back to goodness...nothing was said to be beyond its ability to purify.   It was said to be forged from a single scale of Bahamut, the Platinum Dragon himself and was likewise famed to be unbreakable in every sense of the word, and so uncannily sharp that no mortal blade could hope to be its match...though famously, it was said to be as dull and harmless as clay when used to strike a goodly or pure creature, unable to damage such creatures or beings in the slightest.   It was said to grant its wielder immortality, heightened defenses, and massive boosts in physical and mental might and durability as the wielder was granted a shard of Bahamut, the Platinum Dragon's divine defenses.   Finally, it was said to be a direct conduit to Bahamut himself, and allowed the mighty lord of the gods to directly interact with the material plane.

Manufacturing process

The process required to forge Ioth Mitne has been long since lost to time, but was a technique given to the Church of the Platinum Dragon by their god himself.

Significance

Ioth Mitne is both a religious and cultural icon that once and even still represents the greatest and most powerful weapon and symbol of their god's love and desire to watch over them to the Church of the Platinum Dragon. It was beloved and treasured as an item directly linked to their god and one so mightily powerful that its mere presence could both rally and unite the church and all within it to a single cause and could prevent entire wars with the simple implied threat of Ioth Mitne taking the field to be used against them. No item was as capable of unifying the Church of the Platinum Dragon nor as capable of striking fear into the hearts of the unjust, the evil, or the corrupt as Ioth Mitne.
