Commander Ona
Mariona Velara is the commander of the evening shift of the City Watch in Coromare. She is the youngest watch Commander in the history of the City Watch.
From a young age, Ona admired the Watch Keepers that patrolled the streets near her family's chandlery in Dockside. When not helping in the shop, she frequently followed patrols to watch their work and study their trade. One pair of Watch Keepers took notice of her interest and gave her puzzles to solve, or ask for her opinion on simple cases.
Ona joined the City Watch on the very day she came of age in 496 GE. After her training period, she was assigned to Day Watch, where she proudly served for three years. When the Evening Watch's patrol was decimated by Long Moon Fever in 499 GE, Ona was the first to volunteer to change shifts, despite the shift's reputation for injuring and killing Watch Keepers. She excelled in her new patrol, bringing in some of the city's most notorious thieves.
In 506 GE, the previous Commander of the Evening Watch retired. Though one of the younger applicants for the position at 30 years old, Ona put her name in for the position. The Commanders of Day, Night, and Fourth Watch unanimously agreed that the dedicated young Watch Keeper from Dockside was the best choice for the role. Ona took a two month leave of absence from patrol before assuming the command in order to walk the Path of Lady Cando, seeking guidance from the river spirit.
In 510 GE, Ona married Nasrin Tal-Vet, a Tal tribeswoman who teaches mathematics at the Temporalist University.
