Draugr

Draugr are undead monsters typically found in Geit crypts and tombs. They are often warriors who, in life, protected Geit leaders and chose (or were chosen) to continue their duties in death. Draugr retain some of their abilities from life, making them fearsome opponents whose skills often vary. Generally, stronger Draugr generals are buried nearer the crypts of Geit Cheiftains as a final form of protection against would-be grave robbers. Most Geit crypts are equipped with reviving ruins to bring Draugr back from the dead immediately after they have been slain. Those who trespass upon Geit crypts need either find a way to avoid them or disable them permanently, such as depriving them of their weapons or completely destroying their bodies after they are defeated.

Creation

The creation of Draugr is a tightly guarded secret passed down only among Geit royaltiy. The rites were originally created by an ancient god of death and meade, Lundi, after they helped defeat the Forger during The Saints' War. While Lundi was already established as a god before even the Saints' ascension, they nevertheless took spoils from The Forge in the form of Shifter nanomachines contained with in. The Draugr rites first involve ritually cleansing a body of all its memories in The Dream World through the use of sacred meade. Next, nanomachines are inserted into the draugrs' muscular and nervous system to allow reanimation when a crypt's runes are activated.

Summoning

Draugr do not begin wandering crypts and tombs the moment of their creation. Rather they are interred like any other body and sleep peacefully. When a clan is about to fall or otherwise abandons a crypt, they perform the Draugr Protocols to raise the sleeping warriors. Once risen from the dead, the only differentiation between friend from foe the draugr can make is that between the living and the dead. As such, any family members or well-intentioned visitors will be attacked with the same ruthlessness as grave robbers. As such, Geit generally do not activate the Draugr protocols while there are still family around who might be interred in the crypts or visit them to pay their respects.   A more powerful form of the Draugr protocols exist called the Ragnorok Protocols, where a draugr cockatrice is revived to summon all draugr buried on Jotun. These protocols are meant to be reserved should the entire Geit civilization fall, as a final means of revenge against their conquerers. However, Ragnarok has been initiated a few times in Jotun's history prematurely, most recently when the High Priestess of Habrok's spirit was defeated by the Party in the Habrok crypts. Once the Ragnarok protocols have been initiated, the only way to stop them is to kill the undead cockatrice, referred to as a Bird of Ragnarok.

Encounters with Draugr

The Party has encountered draugr on several occasions throughout their exploration of Jotun, most notably in the Habrok Crypts where they faced off against legions of draugr defending the tombs as well as three draugr generals culled from former Cockatrice Knights who defended the Habrok family. The legendary leviathan, the Bird of Ragnarok, was also released by the spirit of the Habrok high priestess after her defeat at the hands of the Party.   Artifacts-Draugr Staff, Magor's Ring   Crew Members- Questing Beast   Enemies- Magor, Sigrid, Hilde
